How many of you have day jobs?

9 to 5 or whatever your hours are. Do you love what you do?

I’ve been hired and fired quite a few times lately, it’s a fucking waste of life imo

OneHungLo 05-19-2019 05:11 PM

What kind of jobs were you doing? Must be hard to go from working for yourself to a 9-5.

Farang 05-19-2019 05:19 PM

Whatever they let me do: grinded cast iron, assembled Nissans, bartended, baked bread, etc. It’s all fucking shit, beats me how people do that as a career :/

Bladewire 05-19-2019 05:21 PM

Since 1999 porn is my only job, no other income source. Lately I've been looking into different volunteering opportunities to replace my time on GFY. The only negativity in my life I experience is on GFY so I'm looking to replenish that with something more my style, giving back & nourishing others. I somewhat naively thought that posting facts, current happenings & answering tech/knowledge threads on GFY was giving back to the community but I was mistaken; GFY has become a black hole.

I just quit a very popular auto plant. Top rate 35 (cad) assembling cars. Couldn't handle it anymore with my business working. Can't believe I quit to be honest that was a second home to me! :1orglaugh (10 hr shifts at times)

Now I have. Must be hard to make a living as a content producer these days with all the tubes around...

crockett 05-19-2019 05:35 PM

I've worked odd jobs from time to time but I've almost always either 100% worked for myself or worked as a independent contractor for another company on a per-job or performance basis only. I simply can not do the "work by the hour, work your way up grind"..

The longest single job I ever worked as a employee was 3 years. The only reason I kept that job that long was because it was a 3x12hr work week. I worked 3 days a week had 4 days off and have 5 weeks worth off time off each of those 3 years.

When I was traveling, I didn't like eating up my savings so I'd often pick up random temp jobs and worked at some pretty cool places but I was always able to pick my job vs needing one so that made it a bit nicer.

As far as working for myself, I've done a lot of different things.. Starting in high school I started a lawn service that I bought my 1st home with at the age of 21. I had a floor cleaning company.. I had a used car dealership. Did adult & mainstream affiliate sites. Dabbed with webdesign, even went to school for 3d animation at one point. I have a ebay/Amazon business that I run now and I've driven tractor trailers..

I couldn't imagine doing the same thing everyday for a entire career.. I have no clue how people do it..

You’ve been doing retail arbitrage as well, right? How’s that working out for you?

kane 05-19-2019 05:48 PM

Quit my last real job November of 1998 and have worked for myself since. I took a couple years off from this business around 2010 and made money buying storage units and selling the stuff in them but hurt myself (no too mention it is back breaking work) and decided to come back. I still had all my domains etc.

Over time I have built free sites, galleries, AVS etc. These days I do a lot of writing for different companies and have a few projects myself that I am working on that are starting to pick up some steam.

I re-edited my post a bit, I hit post too early.. Amazon is fucking awesome if you can source the right products. I don't necessarily do retail arbitrage because that usually revolves around buying new products & selling new if you go by what most people consider it..

My problem with selling new stuff is Amazon has a lot of fees and the profit margin is really tight on most things. I prefer to buy used items and flip those because the profits are much bigger and I don't have to tie up as much money in product.

Amazon is insane if you manage to get the buy box for new product but it's a lot of competition and even if you find a honeypot someone else will find it too.

Overall though I tend to stick to ebay even though it has it's issues. I sell a lot of used clothing on ebay. I don't really like ebay or clothing in general but my average buy price on a item is $5 and my average sell price is $25 and I charge shipping so the profit is much better than most items on Amazon. It's also very easy to source high quality clothing if you live in the right area.

I don't solely focus on clothing but it's the bulk of my inventory.

As for more recent stuff I haven't started yet, but I'm looking at doing youtube vids. If you pick the right niches for informational videos you can end up with a endless amount of people looking up those vids and you don't need a ton of videos. It's kinda like a gallery getting a good SE listing..

I have been working full time in porn since 2000.

Outside of porn, my wife and I run a bricks and mortar business, and I have a second small business that is part time. I also just invested money into a pizza restaurant and will be one of the owners.

What are you doing in porn these days? Affiliate shit or something else? I've looked to get back in from time to time, but quite honestly in today's era there is no trust for me in affiliate programs. It seems you are just waiting to get screwed these days.

Back in the day affiliates had power by numbers, if a program was outted doing shitty stuff everyone dropped them, but seems today they can get away with anything.

My last job was in 2008 since then I am a free person with much more money! All my businesses are online these days!

CurrentlySober 05-20-2019 01:50 AM

I'm gonna break character and go on a trip down memory lane :)

I first started earning 'pocket money' in adult when I was about 8 years old. Video had just come along and it was my job to load up a bank of about 20 video recorders with blank tapes. Then, a couple of hours later, reload with new tapes. Although I had an idea it was 'naughty films' (Having seen bits of 8mm cine films through cracks in doors) I never actually saw what was on the tapes.

By about 15 I knew what the deal was and had started helping with the tapes sales full time, and at around 18, I began to create original content, which was all sold via mail order from small ads in the back of print publications...

Everything was going extremely well and then the internet came along. While I was quite good with computers, I didn't really realise the potential of the net at first, and simply saw it as another place to advertise my mail order business, and as such, business boomed even further. In around 97, I married my then wife, and followed her over to America to submerge myself in the heart of the industry, in LA and the San Fernando Valley...

By now the nets potential became clear, and I began not only to manage my wifes site, but then with the assistance of a business partner, manage a network of over 200 interconnected sites back in about 2001 / 2002. In late 2002 I was asked to manage a 32,000 square foot production facility, and also the second largest adult Swingers club in the USA. It was also the largest in California. We even held adult conventions there with great attendances from the public. I also managed an adult themed hotel in Palm Springs which got wired up as a cam place (but that never went live due to restrictions at the time) and continued online as a webmaster and an affiliate for other people.

In order to look towards the future, I created a mainstream money generating opportunity of my own, which was linked to the studios location in Downtown LA, and lead to involvement with major productions. Without going into too much detail, the first collaboration was on Terminator 3 for the fire truck chase scene, and after that, we hardly went a single day without generating serious money. However, In early 05 we decided that our marriage wasn't working out, as she was no longer my 'priority' and we divorced amicably.

I moved to San Diego to assist in IT for a pal, however being near the border lead to a random raid looking for illegals, and I got swept up in it. I was indeed a visa overstay, so after 6 and a half months in 'detention' I was removed back to the UK.

Back in the UK I began indulging my passion for a personal micro niche fetish of mine, and made and sold content until 2013, when I called it a day and gave all my camera equipment away to a pal who wanted to start up a wedding business. And that brings me up to today. I am retired, living ff income made in the past and rental income from property purchased back here in the UK... My content brings me in a modest amount on C4S and my old domains redirect to hostedtube.

So no. I have never had a job working for someone else, and as far as life goes, thats pretty much my story. Well, at least the main highlights of it of course. :)

Worked a factory job from 1991-2002. Started running TGPs in 01 and since 02 I've never punched a clock.

Today I work part-time behind the scenes at a phone sex company and still make money off my affiliate sites.

Ahh ok, cool, didn't know ynot was still around. I kinda gave up on affiliate stuff all together, I still get like $200-600/month via Amazon affiliate links because I have some nice places on SE for a few products I did some DIY postings on..

Other than that I completely dropped out of affiliate stuff. I did some DIY solar install write ups that have really good SE listings and I'm actually surprised the money that trickles in via Amazon from that.

I was looking to try something like that on youtube, build a few specialty channels where I build various projects and push certain items from Amazon in my builds. This way I'd get the affiliate referrals & the youtube money.

Aside from that I'm pretty much selling my own inventory of stuff I flip to ebay or Amazon. I think the real trick with Amazon is to build up your own product under your own name but not sure how tariffs will effect that now days not to mention companies in China are now selling direct on Amazon and they are often shipping for free which is ridiculous..

Where are all the fake nicks and Trumpers? Other than Robbie (who has respectfully built a good business in this industry) and HungLo who posted but didn't answer the initial question by the OP, I have no clue what they do.

This would be their chance to show they are truly part of this community.

Yup. But not going to give people my time. Worth way too much. Rather use it wisely and give them some of the money.

The Porn Nerd 05-21-2019 08:15 AM

Before Adult I was a journalist working freelance for a number of national publications. I also worked for public relations companies and record companies in my twenties.

Then I hit 30, saw the music industry was dying and didn't know WHAT to do. So I learned computers, design, content production, editing, all the stuff I do now. Ten years later and I am still here (and growing)! Amazing really.

So other than a few jobs here and there I've always worked for myself. Maybe this is why I am such a happy go lucky motherfucker. :)

Beware of nics with no city or state or country or URL's in their profile :2 cents:

There are some haters that don't work in the industry anymore with a lot of time on their hands and fake nics to spread hate.

unlike fake nicks like you that no one has ever met can ever verify

maybe there are 3 people or 5 people who use your nick? that would explain why you dont recall when you get called out on shit.

time to put up or shut up. prove who you are. I've proven who I am and had people on this board vouch for me since they have met me and I've been photographed at trade shows.

He's a nobody.

He just comes on here every now and then and randomly curses and insults people he doesn't know; it makes them feel like some sort of badass online. People who aren't even talking to him he'll just pop in, throw insults at them for no reason, then do it again in another thread then again then again then he disappears back to his mundane low skill low pay boring life.

I looked at mainstream and I know this is kinda funny, but I dont trust most mainstream affiliate programs. They're a bunch of scammers.

Seems weird but you could trust adult programs a lot more back then because affiliates were the real powerhouse behind the industry.

If a program fucked people over their affiliates the affiliates would drop that program in mass. Saw it happen here on gfy more than once..

There were of course scammers but they usually got outted.

Now days in adult its not like that because for all intents and purposes the affiliate model is dead.

This is how mainstream affiliate programs were to me, I have no recourse against them so I dont want to spend time and effort to have a program just steal my work.

Pretty much the only affiliate stuff I'm interested in is Amazon because I can easily use it as additional income with out focusing directly on it.

Overall though I moved to selling my own inventory via Ebay and Amazon. It has it's own issues but its fairly safe and stable income..

I do want to move back toward virtual income but I'm looking more at YouTube for that which I can then combine with Amazon.

Yea, I never found anything close to what it was like in adult with PPS & reoccurring, which is why I really didn't bother with it. Only reason I even do Amazon affiliate is because it's simply free money to drop product links here and there.

I know back when adult was dying and lots of guys were switching to mainstream many guys were saying they were getting good money with credit card stuff. I know as example on Youtube the ad revenue for videos to do with financial stuff pays more money than say gaming videos do.

Kind like how ad sense always had that sliding scale based on niche.
