Maryland Pediatrician Charged with 65 Counts of Child Abuse and Assault

A Maryland pediatrician has been charged with 65 counts of child abuse and assault after allegedly sexually abusing several female patients, some of whom were underage, and dating back to the 1980s. Dr. Ernesto Torres, 68, was indicted by a grand jury on 65 counts, nine of which include “inappropriate” interactions with 11 female patients, the youngest of whom was 11 years old.

Torres was arrested earlier this month in connection with the rape of an 18-year-old female patient After being rearrested on Monday and charged with "10 counts of sex abuse with a minor, 43 counts of third-degree sex offenses, two counts of second-degree sex offenses and one count of second-degree assault."

According to Charlie Smith, Frederick County State's Attorney, “All described inappropriate touching under their clothing. Some involved penetration, as well, so a very unfortunate, very sad set of facts."
