Washington (CNN)A federal judge blocked a Mississippi law on Friday that forbids abortion after the detection of a fetal heartbeat, as early as six weeks into a pregnancy.

In issuing a preliminary injunction, Judge Carlton Reeves said the law "threatens immediate harm to women's rights, especially considering most women do not seek abortions services until after six weeks."
"Allowing the law to take effect would force the clinic to stop providing most abortion care," wrote Reeves, adding that "by banning abortions after the detection of a fetal heartbeat, the law prevents a woman's free choice, which is central to personal dignity and autonomy."
The law was set to take effect in July.

Supporters of abortion rights argue the law collides with Supreme Court precedent, violating a woman's right to seek an abortion prior to viability.
The law is part of a new wave of restrictions introduced by Republican-led states -- emboldened by President Donald Trump -- to introduce legislation that calls into question Supreme Court precedent. The laws, none of which have gone into effect in 2019, triggered protests across the country on Tuesday, the same day Reeves heard arguments in Mississippi.
Critics worry that with the appointment of Justice Brett Kavanaugh to take the seat of swing vote retired Justice Anthony Kennedy, the Supreme Court might eventually move to cut back on its landmark opinion Roe V. Wade, if not gut the 1973 decision.

This is a victory for every man in Mississippi who'd rather not have to endure the burden of having to pay 18 years of child support.

How timely 30 + years later..

Republican talking points were leaked to vice news on how they plan to argue in favor of abortion.

They plan to argue that women who are raped or victims incest should be forced to carry the babies to term because that's better for them...

With pro-life people it's not really about the baby. It's some warped religious puritanical control fetish. I think they're sexually repressed people who can't stand the fact that a woman had sex without getting pregnant and they need to exercise control over that pregnancy so it results in a birth.

So who should make the decision? This decision was made by politicians who are rich enough to have educated sons and daughters capable of using contraception and/or sending their daughters to a State or country that allows abortions.

As mothers will end up the prime carers they have to be the decision. But if men, especially middle class and up men, make the decision. Maybe they should make sure the mother is provided with all the money and resources needed to raise a child. Including good accommodation or education facilities or just adoption facilities by one of the people who made the decision she has to keep the baby.

And lets not blame her when the child ends up in crime or destitute or worse still walking into a school and shooting people.
