Facial recognition used to ID porn models on social media

And here comes the slippery slope....

https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/9...rce=reddit.com

Someone posting on Chinese social network Weibo claims to have used facial recognition to cross-reference women’s photos on social media with faces pulled from videos on adult platforms like Pornhub.

In a Monday post on Weibo, the user, who says he's based in Germany, claimed to have “successfully identified more than 100,000 young ladies” in the adult industry “on a global scale.”

To be clear, the user has posted no proof that he’s actually been able to do this, and hasn’t published any code, databases, or anything else besides an empty GitLab page to verify this is real. When Motherboard contacted the user over Weibo chat, he said they will release “database schema” and “technical details” next week, and did not comment further.

Still, his post has gone viral in both China on Weibo and in the United States on Twitter after a Stanford political science PhD candidate tweeted them with translations, which Motherboard independently verified. This has led prominent activists and academics to discuss the potential implications of the technology.

According to Weibo posts, the user and some of his programming friends used facial recognition to detect faces in porn content using photos from social platforms. His reasoning for making this program, he wrote, is “to have the right to know on both sides of the marriage.” After public outcry, he later claimed his intention was to allow women, with or without their fiancées, to check if they are on porn sites and to send a copyright takedown request.

"This is horrendous and a pitch-perfect example of how these systems, globally, enable male dominance," Soraya Chemaly, author of Rage Becomes Her, tweeted on Tuesday about the alleged project. "Surveillance, impersonation, extortion, misinformation all happen to women first and then move to the public sphere, where, once men are affected, it starts to get attention."

Whether the Weibo user’s claims are trustworthy or not is beside the point, now that experts in feminist studies and machine learning have decried this project as algorithmically-targeted harassment. This kind of program’s existence is both possible and frightening, and has started a conversation around whether such a program would be an ethically or legally responsible use of AI.

Just as we saw with deepfakes, which used AI to swap the faces of female celebrities onto the bodies of porn performers, the use of machine learning to control and extort women's bodily autonomy demonstrates deep misogyny. It's a threat that didn't begin with deepfakes, but certainly reached a public sphere with that technology—although in the years since, women have been left behind in the mainstream narrative, which has focused on the technology’s possible use for disinformation.

Now just imagine why this tech is bad and will get people killed.. Imagine how this stuff will be used in dictatorships..

it will shut down 90% of all cam sites and most of all production...very few women actually want to be an adult performer professionally...they will probably scrape the models friend list on social media to have a "blackmail ready" type of package for sale for each model...the hardest hit will be chaturbate and mfc because everything is aired for free but it will hit others as well...

the models that stay regardless of the blackmail will make a killing...cam sites will be decimated...good luck finding models who are willing to show their junk to ALL their social media friends and family because some indian webmaster is scraping every site with his "blackmail x" firefox plugin...

we will see how it hits pro models as well...sure there are girls that give no shits but they are in the minority...

Only those morons who have accounts in social networks. For example, I have two, but I don't post anything sensitive there and here they are:

https://twitter.com/NetCyberseo and https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_U...ND2t7jhKIj3PPA

Ferus 05-30-2019 03:21 AM

I have a danish media company that does that already(developed for finding celebs in public media streams). Our solution was presented at the AWS Summit.

This is nothing new

They have facial recognizing in Thailand and where able to get a criminal at the airport. Won't be long till a country will connect it with social media to recognize people they don't like and refuse entry. Could be because of their job, political views, religion,...

1. This could be modified to help producers/models find their pirated content easily.

2. Every sane person who values his own privacy is already protecting it by either deleting their social network profiles or at least having them accessible for friends only ... and/or using fake name

90% of all models are dumb as shit...they get tagged and appear on non private profiles as well...

Actually with the new EU directive that has recently been passed, all content sharing platforms will have to implement filters to detect pirated content. It could work on similiar principle like this. They have two years to put this to work.

They better whitelist or filter out affiliates who are legitimately using promotional content.

Have you ever gone somewhere like Reddit as example and read the comments some of these dudes leave on model's postings? There are a lot of really fucked up people out there and with out a doubt there are fucked up stalkers who "fall in love" with some internet girl in a picture or video and will pay whatever it cost to get her real address/name.

A friend of mine's wife is a stripper. She's had a dude stalker her for 3 fucking years or maybe longer. The guy actually moved and got a job in the same town because he was so obsessed.

Never underestimate how fucked up some people are..

A company called FaceFirst put this a many US shops, The software and cameras match a face to a profile. The profile/file can have any information in it, Shoplifter, bad check writer and porn star to politician. Walmart was one of the first to get this, years ago.

The only thing I really know about Reddit is how to parse it:

As I said above, I don't use social networks as a person. If those porn models are that stupid to revival their personal information so they are even dumber than I though.

I know who they are. I know that all Americans are obsessed with celebrities - from mainstream movies or from porn. Here in my country nobody gives a shit when sees a movie celebrity or a porn star. For example, my neighbor was a porn model Женя (this one or this one or this one), actually she was a good fellow as a person (well educated with a good sense of humor). I was at the flight with a very famous Russian porn model and guess what? Nobody has wanted to stalk her or to stalk Женя. If people here need sex, they go to https://www.intimcity.nl/ or to https://www.dosug.cz/ru/d/part/3 and find what they need. Otherwise, just go to a nearest pub or a sex club (in Moscow we have many for straight and gay people) and find it for free (a lot of it for a night, depending how strong your physical health is). Course there are mad/crazy people in Russia too, but it's not like a total celebrity obsession you have in the USA. You have special buses in LA to visit the places your cinema clowns live in or may appear nearby. WTF???

It's not all Americans and just Americans (plenty of foreign tourists too), just those used to riding the short bus.

Actually most of Americans are obsessed. I'm constantly seeing various topics about Hollywood personas and their private life right here at GFY. I don't even click these treads usually. Who cares what they did and who they are?

Here in Moscow you can meet a Russian celebrity almost any day if you are visiting center of the city. Believe me or not, almost every Hollywood celebrity has visited my city at least once (many do it constantly). But we have no special buses to stalk them.

If you watch the video above, you'll notice some people with banners like "we love you" etc. I'll tell you an awful truth... they all get paid about $100 a hour for a participation in all these TV shows. They don't pay for that, they don't do it for free. They do it for money. And I personally know those who do it as the only way to make money. Every single person in that studio is being paid. Every single person.

just a punk 06-02-2019 11:47 AM

Maybe I was a bit incomprehensible, but here in Moscow you can always meet someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Elijah Wood bicycling right on the street, but who gives a fuck about it? You may say that Russians don't know them. I tell you one thing... the Putin's state television is considered as one of the most entertaining in the world (that's true because it has a very serious financial support), and the AAA Hollywood movies are being shown there every weekend (I'm talking about the free air channels, the cable ones like HBO or Fox are another thing - those want you to pay about 300 rules every month). So course everybody knows Arnold Schwarzenegger here, but I can't imagine who would like to stalk him. Meet him somewhere and ask to make a selfie - ok, but stalking buses are something over of my mind.

The difference is that in the USA the people pay to see the celebrities. In Russia people get paid for that. To be honest, I don't know the current prices but before the financial crisis of 2014 it was about $100. It's like you have to visit a TV show with that guy from Master of the Rings or that who was playing Harry Potterr. How much? $100. Oh, I like Harry Potter, watched all the movies and $100 sounds like a deal!

Pretty sure this would be against the GDPR in EU. In some countries you can't even use a dashboard camera in your car. :thumbsup Geez sometimes I am so glad I live here, privacy protection these days should be among the highest priorities and this thread just proves that.
