I bought an old fashioned metal spinning top for the grandkids...

A couple of months ago, and they enjoyed it. You push the plunger down, top spins and hums and a great time is had by all... Until it breaks. After only a couple of months and them only using it on a Sunday when I see them... So... About 8 times...

Anyway, I bought it from a local shop - Just a small shop - Support your local businesses and stuff - Paid £22.00 for it, cause it was something from my childhood I wanted to share with them, and it's not something you see much these days. So I took it back and they didn't want to know... :(

The only thing they would do, is sell me another one - Full price - Which has now gone up to £25.00

So I've come home and ordered an identical one, from the manufacturers, via amazon, it arrives tomorrow and has cost me £12.00

Is there another reason that local stores are going out of business?

No all you need to do is leave a terrible Facebook review. Inform them of the fact.

I read the whole story, eagerly awaiting for the part where you got the brilliant idea to make it spin around as its flinging poo.

But alas, now the seed has been planted in your mind. Go fourth and fulfill your destiny.

Smear some poo on it

I've got a cunning revenge plan brewing. Just need to receive the new one from Amazon, and then I'll find out if I can put my plan into action !

Stay tuned poo fans !

No, that's the only reason - 'cuz your spinning top broke.

CurrentlySober 06-05-2019 06:40 AM

So - Update - Here's what I have just done...

The spinning top itself looked brand new - It had hardly been played with. It was just the mechanism inside that had gone wrong. So, I carefully opened it up... And, I took a shit in it...

Using the brand new box from the amazon replacement, I closed up the top and resealed it in what appears to be its original wrapping. It looks brand new.

Went back to the shop, where I replaced it on the shelf along with all the other spinning tops. TBH, I couldn't even tell which one was mine...

So, sucks to be the store when they eventually sell it to somebody... Still, as escorpio said above...

Here are some of the toys that I had when I was a kid

https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3r7FdfHti...0/DSC00882.JPG

This was the coolest toy. It is a a bunch of electronic parts like Transistors, Resisters, Solar Cells, Capacitors and more all laid out on a board, connected to little silver springs. The book that it came with had instructions to build all kinds of projects like radios, transmitters, counters, VU Meters, logic circuits, etc, just by connecting wires from one spring to another. LOVED IT.

Today I've discovered my inner child doing something similar. A Raspberry Pi and Audrino. I'm hoping to automate my house with it. :)

And of course like every other kid on the block I had one of these too:

Fun!

I used to have that!!! One of the reasons I majored in mechanical engineering for robotics. Educational toys open up & feed the mind :thumbsup

Updating this thread, as promised, 3 years to the day...

Sad to report that NO stories hit the local or national press :(

I can only guess that they smelt it in the shop and managed to find it...

Plus the fact that the shop never reopened after lockdown anyway, and now remains empty...

Oh I remember those. Sucks that your plan didn't work though.
