Kickass new sci fi movie on Netflix I just watched
"I am Mother"
One if the best movie I've seen this year. A psychological sci-fi thriller with so many twists and turns. Awesome! |

I just watched it. It was ok... I didn't love it though. I'm forever distracted by obvious questions.
SPOILERS AHEAD: =========== 5 4 3 2 1 ... Why does "Mother" have to sleep to recharge her batteries? And why so long? Why not just swap battery packs? Next, why unpack those embryos one at a time? If Mother's job is to raise a perfect person, the psychological impact of loneliness would drive a kid-teen to madness or at least stunt their mental growth. If they are trying to make a good human, why do it one at a time and take so long doing it? Each embryo is born in 30 days sure but we assume that the girl has been there for 18 years. Since there are at least 4 others before her, its easy to say Mother's been at this for at least 30-40 years. Since there is so much food and resources then many "Mothers" raising many people would make more sense. OK movie, decent tension, great visual effects, and "Mother" looked like it was designed from Boston Dynamics - neat! But otherwise... |
looks ok , ill torrent it.

The first ones to go are OneHunglo and Escorpio. If we are creating a better world his kind must be the first to go. When can we start? Send the Dozers!!! I would love to see Onehunglo trying to explain his bullshit and first amendment to Mother:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh Send the Dozers!!!!! OneHunglo and Escorpio first to go!!! https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/conten...jpg?1552842265 |
Of course, you should only watch this video if you have seen the movie. This is a great breakdown of the themes, symbolism and even some of the plot confusion I was having. Makes perfect sense to me now.
The opening sequence was one of the most beautiful cinematic things I've seen in a while. And did anyone else actually do the math of the "days passed" super after that opening sequence? Probably would have had different thoughts while watching had I done that. There's a whole lot of things in the movie that are thrown in your face to tell you what's going on. But I usually miss that stuff because I don't like to try to figure out a movie as I watch it. I'm more about soaking up the music, cinematography, dialogue etc...the filmmaking stuff. A twist ending has more impact for me if I haven't already put the puzzle pieces together before the ending. |

That Hilary Swank character...when you put into perspective her entire story...wow that shit is just tragic.

. . . . . . . . What an awful end for her. Notice in her shipping yard shelter she had the religious shrine? and after mother notices the religious shrine she kills her? My thought us the robots killing humanity was to kill off religion and give us a fresh start without the hate of religion; the scurge of humanity. My big question is, what happened to the dog in the end? He was with the girl, then never seen again, and we know the woman dies so she wouldn't be able to feed him anymore. |

Yes good points. I also hate when they just pick up in a post apocalyptic world with no back story. Was the woman who came in through the airlock one of the original embryos? There are a lot of things that make me scratch my head here |

Notice how Hilary Swanks character had the rosery cross she kept on playing with throughout her scenes and how the end scene she had a religious shrine? Notice how the robot touch the shrine and looked at it and then said and she had served her purpose, then killed her? |

As someone who does Cg for a living, I feel kind of dumb for not realizing the robot was a man in a suit.
Actually I didn't think about it while watching the movie. Maybe there was a moment when I just assumed it was CG because almost every VFX of this nature isn't done practically anymore. I love practical effects and it's good to see some filmmakers not turning to Cg for everything. Couldn't embed the video for some reason.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBpBXf8GIp8 |

The fact that it took so long to get him in the costume every day and if he had to take a shit he had to get fully undressed to do so was distressing to me :evil-laug |
I fell asleep watching it. Got to the bit after the woman got in and she refused to be treated.
