Here in our area a few towns over a street was closed and there was a huge police presence. Turns out there was a kid on the side of the street armed with an assault rifle who was suicidal. Let's just say it did not end well.

Anyone know of a PRACTICAL solution to mass shootings?

Simple solution. Ban everything with a magazine of more than 5 bullets, armour piercing bullets and few other limits to the fire power of guns available to the general public.

This does not go against your sacred constitution, written at a time of flintlocks that were only capable of one shot before requiring reloading, hostile Native Americans, British, French, Mexicans, wild animals everywhere and bandits.

The most dangerous thing now is other Americans armed to the teeth and secretly wishing to use them.

It will take the "mass" out of shootings, down to a few.

Clearly there is no mass shooting problem unless it's a black guy... Red Hats only care about it if they can blame a minority or a Muslim. For everything else "aka white shooters" it's "thoughts and prayers" and fake news or a false flag...

The most practical solution, that is working, is just surviving until the 40's.

Outlaw all firearms except for shotguns and bolt action long rifles. Shotguns can be used for home protection - in fact, they are ideal for that - and bolt action long rifles can be used for hunting and target practice.

Problem solved. You will have a weapon for home protection, and also something for hunting. In the mean time, no one is going to walk into a church / school / movie theater with a shot gun or long rifle to shoot and kill people.

I am not for making firearms illegal, only limiting what what firearms you can own. If you need protection, get baseball bat. Think about this for a moment.... If you ban all firearms other than shotguns and long rifles it solves all of the problems.... You still have a firearm for protection, and you still are able to hunt.

The 2nd amendment says we have the right to own firearms. It does not say we have the right to assault rifles. Or even handguns.

I did not vote for Trump and I find it unutterably dull how many people wake up every day dying to talk about whatever this week's news bite about him is, but, if you are obsessed, shouldn't you at least be aware of policy which impacts you and/or people you do business with directly?

Why did it drop off the news? I no longer ever look at any trending topics on social media because it all seems like quickly forgotten manufactured outrage. I clicked this accidentally meaning to click a thread next to it, but now I'm curious.

If people want to stop mass shootings, I have the answer:

Be excellent to one another.

Drill down into almost all supposed mass shootings and the shooter knew the victims and felt abused by them. The fantasy is that this is terrifying random large scale stranger murder, but the reality is that it is samurai movie revenge plot made real, at least in the minds of the shooters.

So, yeah, people could try a bit of compassion and kindness and niceness. And not making every shooter famous.

It will take a long time but it's doable, if you want to reduce the numbers killed. Sadly there's no way to completely stop Americans from killing each other for no reason. There's something wrong in the American psychy that drives teens to walk into a school and kill their fellow pupils for the stupidest of reasons or men who get upset at work to shoot their fellow work mates.
