House panel votes to subpoena Kellyanne Conway over Hatch Act violations

(CNN) The House Oversight Committee voted on Wednesday to subpoena testimony from White House counselor Kellyanne Conway after a federal agency recommended that she should be fired for repeatedly violating a law that limits the political activities of federal employees.

Chairman Elijah Cummings, Democrat of Maryland, has warned that his panel would vote to hold Conway in contempt if she ignores the subpoena. Conway did not appear on Wednesday on the advice of White House counsel for the committee's scheduled hearing.

The vote -- 25 to 16, with Democrats and Rep. Justin Amash, Republican of Michigan, voting in favor -- could set up another challenge in court between Congress and the Trump administration, which has consistently stymied Democrats' oversight efforts since they took control of the House earlier this year.

"This is not a conspiracy to silence her or restrict her First Amendment rights," Cummings said. "This is an effort to enforce federal law."

"Nobody in this country is above the law," added Cummings.

Cummings is cool.

It's time to start hitting them with fines and putting them in jail. Congress has a Sargent in Arms who has the power to arrest and jail those who are in contempt of Congress

Arrogant bitch thinks she is above the law because Chump is boinking her!

It's insane how this woman acts.... She doesn't care about the Hatch Law and thinks it doesn't apply to her, and thinks she can do whatever she wants.

I am tired of government officials violating the law and nothing being done about it. This is simple. Violate the hatch act, $100k fine. You have thirty days to pay it. Don't pay, thirty days in jail. You still have to pay the fine. AND.... You are no longer allowed to work for the United States Government again.

It's always Republicans too. I saw some stats on felony convictions.... We are at 79 people in the Trump administration and only two years in. Obama was in office for eight years.... Not once. It's always the same thing through out the years.... Democrats might have one or two for every president, while republicans have dozens. It's sickening.

I am wondering if you are right. She is not qualified to do anything; She runs a polling company. Seems to me there are a lot of women around Trump not qualified to do anything.

*yawn*

Just another political fishing expedition, no different from Mueller's witch hunt.

Investigate the person in hopes of finding a crime.

When they say "she runs a polling company" that's just more bullshit trying to give street cred and a way to pass money around..

Does anyone seriously think she runs a "real" polling company? She probably has it regestered as a 501 group or something like that and uses it to claim she has some sort of qualifications other than money in her pocket from a rich daddy...

Why would you say that?
