When I was a kid at school, the big thing was always conkers. Chestnuts that grew on trees that would fall to the floor for us all to collect, take to school, swap and play 'Conkers' with...
It was always after the summer holidays. We would go back at the start of September and after a bit, you'd see them start to appear on the trees... They'd grow for a bit, then at the end of October / Start of November, they'd start falling, and conker season was in full swing ! I remember it clearly...
They have been growing on my local trees for about a couple of weeks already this year. We have only just started July. 40 years ago, they wouldn't even be starting to grow for at least another 2 to 3 months...
Crazy to see it in action !
