I tried to book this guy to come round and 'do his stuff', but he's obviously in great demand, because he's booked solid for weeks... :(

Shortage of skilled manual labor in most Western countries.

My generation was taught that college was the key to everything. ;-)

My youngest brother went to trade school for welding. He's only 24 and doing quite well for himself without a $100,000 student loan debt hanging over his head.

Are you looking to repair or replace. If it's been over 15 years, you should replace.
I've done a few, if there is no damage to the sheeting, it's pretty simple. But like with all things, get a professional if you don't think you can do it

I was under the same impression - You had to go to college to make "good money".

I did in fact go to college; I have two AA degrees. But when that dream job came up (Playboy) the basic requirement was having a college degree.

The UK can thank Blair for this. He created the myth you had to go to college to make decent money, then charged kids for the lessons so they end up in debt and in jobs that don't pay enough to repay the debt.

Then allowed millions of low skilled workers into the UK because of a shortage in manual type workers.

OK - Hands up people who read the article?..

I love CS, but you should all know to expect the unexpected by now.....

Helped to replace a roof for my relative over the weekend. Nothing too hard just takes a lot of time and careful measurement. A lot of instructions on the internet can be found for every roof type, but you need to be prepared to have the right tools for the job.

the secret of this profession lies in the composition of the food. after the shit has hardened, the dried mass can perfectly insulate a house roof against water penetration for decades.

but it is pretty hard for one guy to poo on high demand.

tells some irish roofing crew the drinks are on the house. :2 cents::2 cents: few cases of irish red should do the trick

I am also a plumber you want to look further up inclination from where the water is coming in from. You are looking for a broken tile, or shinks and cracks on cement work on tile or slate roof or metal roof loose metal, cappings, flashing or rust in gulleys and decaying flashings eg lead breaks down. Silicone and lead or artificial rubber lead flashings will fix most emergency repairs. Eg wrap a cracked tile or add a flashing where wind is blowing water over.
