I've had a few friends get divorced and the horror I witnessed them endure there's no way in hell I would ever put myself in situation. Both of these guys had 6 figure incomes and both ended up back living with their parents because they couldn't afford their exwife's mortgage payment, alimony, child support etc.

My sister just got divorced after 10 years of marriage. The poor son of a bitch has to pay her this ridiculous alimony payment till he retires (in 9 years) and then she gets 30% of his pension...FOR LIFE! And he has to cover her heath insurance... FOR LIFE!!


Check your local alimony laws before you jump into anything.

Even though my step dad basically raised me thus taking a woman with a kid, I don't think I could do it. It's hard enough to love your own kids sometimes let alone someone elses. Besides that, her having a kid is basically irrefutable proof that someone was cumming in the pussy you're eating, and i'd always have that on the back of my mind.

My divorce lawyer was expensive, but she was worth every penny. A good lawyer will cost you way less than half your shit and alimony and child support. A really good lawyer gets you custody of the kid, no alimony, and a judgement against the ex for the legal fees they brought as well :)

Of course, being a decent human being and an outstanding father plays a lot into that. The courts aren't going to reward a piece of shit person, even with a good attorney.

Actually, if you know how to represent yourself a lawyer is an unnecessary expense. And courts have to follow the law, no matter if someone is a dick or not.

Depends. I think it's quite different if you a young healthy man with no kids or if you are older and maybe have your own kids already.

I have a step daughter. It is what it is. I treat her like my own, I get along with her dad. Me and him actually kinda "co-parent" her. We make sure we're on the same page with everything so it's the same rules and regulations regardless who's house she's in.

The woman I dated before I met my wife had a nine year old daughter. I love kids and I sort of enjoyed being a "dad". When we broke up it was really hard because I felt like I lost two people. Years later she hit me up on FB and thanked me for being a part of her life. It was kind of neat.

It's still pretty terrible advice. I have a friend who "represented himself" but it was all extremely amicable anyways so no reason to spend money on an attorney for either party. That's usually not the case; especially if there are considerable assets involved.

I got everything but the car (Dodge Caravan), and got 50/50 custody of my kids with no alimony. I did have to give her 20% of my pension. Nothing amicable; it took a couple years to finish.

If you understand anecdotes you'd know why nobody should give a fuck about yours. It is known that representing yourself in court is a bad fucking idea. Many judges don't like it in the first place, you definitely don't know as much as you think as shown in your decade + of GFY history and it's a stupid gamble to take. Bro, we're fucking around here and I have no doubt that you can write up paperwork. But your experience isn't true in a lot of cases and there are a ton of judges that get really pissy about people representing themselves. So many states that automatically give women the horse, car, house and kids that going in without a lawyer is like asking to be robbed blind and dropped in the ocean.

Lucky for me, the year my proceedings started was the first year of the Family Law Code in California. I think I had an advantage over opposing counsel in that he had to scrap what he knew and learn new laws which actually dumped the "wife gets everything" bullshit.

I'm in my 30s, I guess I can still go for younger 20-25 who haven't had kids still. But as I get older, women typically have kids. I have 2. Who am I to say anything.

What is kind of annoying is when you make plans and they use their kids as the excuse for it not working. I get there's plenty of times you might have to pass on a plan because of kids. I would do it for mine. But I would seriously gauge how badly I'm needed. Scrape on the knee, nope, doctor or hospital, definitely.

The deal is put up what you can handle or willing to adjust for. Just don't do it because it's good sex or it seems like a good idea.

I'm debating staying single for some time. :) No one in their 20s/30s seems to have their shit together in my area and the ones that do are taken lol.
