not me, I have the bank issue and mail a check if I need on or use the ATM card, but I do see people writing checks at the store sometimes and I wonder why... you guys?

Klen 01-27-2020 07:42 AM

Checks were kind a outlawed in Europe before 20 years :)

celandina 01-27-2020 08:42 AM

Warner Borthers sends me royalty cheques and refuse to use wire or any other method.:error Then I have to manually take it to my bank and wait about 60 days for the cheque to clear. A real pain in the ass.

The dog abides.

slapass 01-27-2020 11:19 AM

I do. Sometimes when I close an account, an old bill shows up and I have to pay it.

MaDalton 01-27-2020 12:07 PM

ReggieDurango 01-27-2020 08:03 PM

I still have a check book, but I cannot remember the last time I wrote a check.

Some things I cannot pay online, such as my garbage. However, one of the companies I own does a lot of cash transactions so we always have a lot of cash and we try to pay cash for everything we can.

MakeMeGrrrrowl 01-27-2020 10:19 PM

I use them, but never at the store.

Used one just the other day to the duct cleaning company. I use it for all companies who come service anything at my house, school lunch, my daughters rent etc. I actually write them quite a lot.

EddyTheDog 01-28-2020 09:26 AM

I don't think they exist here any more...

The last one I saw one here was in about 1999 - $57K - Good day at the casino!....

When I need to pay by check (a lot of financial things still require checks, total pain in the ass) I literally go to the bank and have the bank issue the check for me.

Outside of that, Wells Fargo and Bank of America make transferring money to other people fairly simple and cost-effective. Zelle is now available for business, which is nice, though I have yet to use it myself.

Zelle is great for business; quick, painless and fast.

If I need a check I go to the bank. I do see a lot of old folks 60+ using checks at grocery stores in my area. I guess they are afraid of the technology or not comfortable using a payment method they are not accustomed to.

Generally when I am behind them in line I find that it's quicker to wait for them to write the check than it is for them to figure out how to use the chip reader :1orglaugh

"any of you cats use a a check book anymore?"

Damn ! I haven't heard the term "cats" since I was a kid or the last time I played an old Woodstock concert movie.

thezio 01-28-2020 10:48 PM

Nope. I get money orders to pay idiots in WA state for my fees. They don't take credit cards.
Did see someone at the store with check book. She made people maaaaad. :1orglaugh

LustCore 01-29-2020 07:39 PM

When opened my first bank account in Greece then I was surprised that received a checkbook that I only saw in the movies till then. Then realized it is real and still in use, mostly for paying bills by the old generations. Still somewhere in the bottom of my drawers, never touched it.

shake 01-29-2020 11:56 PM

Use maybe 1 or 2 per year now. Almost as often I'm giving someone a void cheque to start direct bank payments, either coming in or going out.

Just read an article how US pension is being paid by check as well, and this is problem as local banks dont take it any more, so no option to get that money. Crazy.

Writing a check at the store is a bit much - I still see the older folks counting out nickles and dimes at the check out counter just to pay the exact transaction fee -

Besides that, I still write out checks to pay my bills - Write a check to pay my IRS taxes - Some businesses I've seen charge a extra processing fee when you use your credit card -

There are pros and cons to each method -

ilnjscb 01-30-2020 08:24 AM

Anybody who actually has a business in the US still has to use checks sometimes - I don't have a book and I've used one or two a month for 5 years.

I get my pensions via direct deposit.
