I Started Running

Made a new year resolution to try running.
Prior to new year I couldn't have run for more than 1 minute or so.

Today, just 28 days later I ran for a full 20 minutes. 1.8 miles/ 3km

I did the couch to 5k thing.

The goal is to get upto running 5km in around 30 minutes.

~Evilin~ 01-29-2020 02:06 PM

Don't forget to take a great meal after running

I'm not on a diet, I actually had a burger and chips for tea.

As I see it, running tends to feminize the man's body . . .

Without weights it does.

There may be some truth in this. Too much cardio reduces testosterone apparently. Lifting weights increases it.

Rochard 01-30-2020 04:50 PM

Stick with it. We aren't getting any younger.

Congrats on this resolution, and if you could barely run last year, it's a truly impressive progression!
Keep it going, steadily, and you'll see growth... the hardest part is not to give up... back in 2015 I could barely walk due to some nasty back pain... since 2016 I've changed a lot of things in my lifestyle and I've been progressing slowly... last year I crushed my goal that was "10k in 1h". We'll see what happens in 2020, I've not set clear goals appart training regularly and improving.

And about feminizing your body I guess it's a matter of nutrition :) if you're running but still eat enough proteines, I guess you won't get too lean and won't lose too much muscle. But i'm not an expert and the best is to experiment on yourselves :)

Tasty1 01-31-2020 03:53 AM

Use a treadmill if you don't want to damage your knees. I can run every day 1 hour but won't lose weight if i don't adjust what i eat. Other muscles use much more energy, so don't do only cardio. I am now losing 3 kilo's a month while i don't sport, just adjusting what i am eating. Stop eating bread, pasta, rice. Just eating meat, fruit, vegetables will do it and drink more water. I can eat as much as i want that way, never feeling hungry. Feeling hungry is bad, your body will make a reserve cause it doesn't know when the next meal is coming.

Swimming is best if your near ocean have a have pool the best sport to test your endurance to stay alive.

Lexi BongaCash 01-31-2020 08:55 AM

Running works really well with planking. I mean not standing in a plank for 1 minute per day, but really hard planking. Will be rough at first, but every time gets easier, now I can even what TedxTalks while standing

I used to run a lot. I mean a fucking lot and I hated every bit of it. It's really the only thing I hated about the Army and having a combat arms MOS in a rapid deployment division, all the fucking running.

Next time I run, will probably be because I'm on fire or something.

incorrect... but its a better focus.

ok everyone in here has either never run in their life or have been doing it extremely wrong... It's a perfectly healthy exercise, and yes even on the road. It can be addictive, and it can be detrimental if not done correctly or in excess, much like anything else.

I've read about a dozen books on it or so, and most of that i read after my first marathon and i felt like kicking myself for not reading more on it prior because i mostly just bull rushed through everything and paid for it with some long recovery after that first race.

the best book i read, that i would recommend even if you only read one on the subject, is Chi Running by Danny Dreyer. It's an older book but focuses on a relaxed and easy running form that can basically turn an average runner into someone who can almost run forever without aches and pains while doing it. I used it in my next race and i was pain free almost in the next few days. I used the same methods in the last one i did a couple years back and it was just as applicable, despite me not being as well trained as i would have liked and nursing a bad ankle (not from running)

Like anything else, there is a wrong way to do it and an easier way...

Bryan G 02-03-2020 11:00 AM

I love running. I do mix it up though, one day weight training the next I go for a 45min run. Then weights again the following day and so on.

george MH 02-05-2020 01:40 PM

Its not just how much we move .. but it is how much we eat :1orglaugh

RyuLion 02-05-2020 04:31 PM

Well done! You'll feel young in a couple of days!
Run at a park, it's like meditation!

PornDiscounts-V 02-05-2020 11:58 PM

One of the things I most miss about youth.

I used to run regularly for hours at a time.

fuzebox 02-06-2020 12:50 AM

I used to love running, would do around 40-60km a week... Started to get knee pain and shin splints and basically gave it up. I'd like to get back into it but don't want to suck at something :1orglaugh

I'm dealing with a chronic stomach issue right now, second round of surgery recently but I lost like 30 lbs in the past couple months. my BMI is about 14 right now. ironically I'm trying to gain weight to get fit again but my stomach needs to stop hating me

can't do Insanity or P90X or dance or even swim properly. running I used to do every night, or rather skipped. this cool stretch of road near the airport where the ocean is on both sides. and people parred there so there was always music

wasn't so much exercise but mental health care/stress relief. but exercise is stress relief so same thing I guess. guessing you're feeling way happier these days from the best drug ever, endorphins

I'm normally an exercise fiend, I hate being still. running is a great start (big ups for choosing this) but as time goes on mix it up a bit. you can't be your fittest self with just one activity. dance in your bathroom if you don't want to hit a club, join a gym with a pool. P90x* as well, then advance to Insanity if you're in for a world of hurt but want to feel so strong you can do anything

*also include yoga. it fucking sucks and is boring as hell but it works. and you don't need to be fit to do it, even in my skeletal state I can handle a few minutes and it keeps you toned. it's more bearable when you do it listening to Massive Attack

props tho, for real. keep it up :pimp
