Buying property in Bahamas. Anyone in Bahamas?

I am going to Bahamas next month to look at few condos. Anyone here ever lived there or owned a vacation / second home? How bad is crime in Bahamas?

Crime can be pretty bad, especially theft. It's worse the farther you get from well-traveled areas. It's a third world country that depends on tourism for it's main trade.

Other than that, the place is beautiful, and has some of the most polite people I've ever met. Nobody is in a hurry so if you're in a hurry, prepare to just be frustrated about it because they don't care. They live on island time.

I think slow pace is common in any island nation. Even in Cayman Islands, where its all "British" people tend to do things slow. I do like "oppressed" islands more than independent nations, but is so expensive to live in Caymans or Aruba. First time in Bahamas thought.
