Do You Eat A Lot Of Black Licorice ¿

“ Not everyone loves black licorice. But if you enjoy it, and you're over the age of 40, the Food and Drug Administration warns that you shouldn't eat more than two ounces a day. Doing so for two weeks could land you in the hospital with an irregular heart rhythm. That's because black licorice contains a sweetener derived from licorice root known as glycyrrhizin, which can cause potassium levels to drop. If that happens, some people experience abnormal heart rhythms.”

I’d never heard this before. I used to eat red licorice and Dr. Pepper-flavored licorice (brown) but didn’t like black licorice.

Edit: it was a flavor choice and not a racial issue. I’m sure someone here will think that ...

😂😂💰

Queen Elizabeth II is a trained mechanic.

True fact.

My mother was binge watching Netflix with a show that had like 11 or more episodes over a span of 11 or so seasons. She bought a MASSIVE tub of black licorice to enjoy. She ate lunch and dinner as she normally does, but she ate a lot of the licorice as well.

After day 4 of watching she started noticing palpitations in her heart and called me. I came and found her unconscious. Dialed 911. They asked if she ingested anything I could see around her that was out of the ordinary. Uh, just a half empty jug of black licorice... Did she eat the other half? I guess... Do you know how long it took her to eat it? No fucking idea, but she did mention about 3 or 4 days ago that she was going to binge watch a show on Netflix. We are sending an ambulance. Please check her pulse and make sure she is still breathing.

EMT's injected her with some potassium and vitamin D. She was fine almost immediately. But they insisted she get checked out at the hospital (and they make a lot more money when they get you there).

First I had ever heard of something like that. She doesn't eat it anymore.

Scary shit. You don’t think that a childhood candy can kill you. Warnings are on everything these days and maybe a warning about excessive consumption of licorice is needed.

I always wonder how shit like this continues to get made.

I read earlier about Glycophate being in Oreos and other snack foods. I saved the email with that information. It’s known to be unsafe yet they use it in food products. Today they’ll say x amount is safe but next year it will be deemed unsafe. “You can ingest a little poison and we think it’s okay” seems to be the norm.

My grandma said that you eat a ton of dirt before you die. It should be “before you die from it.”

People won’t care about black licorice until it affects them in some way.
