This is why I don't design sites for other people
So a friend of mine came to me and told me he wanted a blog, and told me a little about what he wanted. I quickly bought a domain name for him, got hosting, put up a blog and... Now he wants a page with "four buttons", three of which point to other sites (all of which look like they were designed in 2002).
Meh. |
I don't understand your problem.
Just add the four buttons. :2 cents: |
I have done this sooo many times - Then they say things like 'well you can use it to get more business' like they are doing you a favor - Like fuck am I going to put my name to that monstrosity!..

Welcome to the club. Wait two weeks more till he remembers he wants more changes!

Just hide the fact how you know to do stuff :upsidedow |
All changes are billed at a minimum of 1/2 hour, regardless of how much less time it takes. 31 minutes is billed at a full hour. They will cut out the bullshit. Friends and business don't mix. If it's something I do for a living, my friends don't get it for free.

The reason I don't design sites for other people is cause all my sites look like fucking shit so I don't get asked... :(
|
Yeah I went though this before. Many times back when I was still kinda fresh to this and wanted to take in as much money as possible. One of those sites turned my customer into a millionaire before me.
Now I just say no. Not because of the design bullshit like this or dude striking gold before me. I just don't enjoy making sites for other people like I do for myself. Especially when you have to nanny them afterwards because they don't know how to maintain or operate it. Fuck all that, I got my own shit going on. |
The only full time developer in this thread is the only one who isn't mad.
:1orglaugh This experience is just how it normally works. :2 cents: |
I don't mind helping people but time=money and I have to remind people of that ALL the time. Once you offer something for FREE people will take advantage of you when you try and charge for small things and just expect you to continue doing things free of charge. I also don't work for family or sell family or friends anything.
Don't even get me started on the "We're friends so it should be cheaper right!" If I had a dollar for every time I heard that I would be rich on those dollars alone. I always try and price things fair for all my clients and take into consideration the amount of time and creative energy a project will consume. |

Hey, how many sites so you run now?
Upwards of 1000 or so, why? Think you can make me one? I just want to.... Sure. Here you go. Hmm, seems like nobody is going to it. How do I get them to come? Google for your issue and read. Can't you just tell me? Not enough time in the world. Sorry. You suck. Thanks! |

Whatever. I'll do what he wants. Instead of building something great, we'll just build a site with a few buttons on it. |

If you really don't want to do it, tell him to make one of these: https://myke.ly/COVID19
|
Why not just point him to Wix or something similar and be rid of the problem?

I can't help myself - Someone says 'I need a website done' and before you know it my mouth is open and out it comes: 'Oh, I can help you with that' - I can hear myself saying it, I try to stop but it still comes out...
|
too many poor people in porn these days can't afford to pay for 4 buttons
