Adobe deactivates CS 3

Years ago I purchased Adobe CS 3 and have been using it ever since. No issues on Windows 10 at all. Yesterday they deactivated their CS 3 servers and my entire suite of Adobe programs will stop working in 5 days. Their response is the software is dead and no longer supported and will not work on Win 10.
Their offer of replacement is that I can purchase CS 6 with a perpetual license for $650.

How do you like that? Has anyone ever heard of such a blatant disregard for propriety?

I am investigating a class action lawsuit.

Hinc 03-29-2020 11:24 AM

That is horrific customer service ... not supporting/updating is one thing, destroying products you already paid for quite another.

They likely have a clause in the terms allowing them to do it - but that doesnt make it right

adobe is super creepy and always has been

SilentKnight 03-29-2020 12:50 PM

That's fucked up.

I still use PS Elements 14 I bought in-store so I still have a hardcopy disk.

Seems Adobe isn't overly concerned with customer loyalty.

To me, that's a perfect example of why 'honest' people pirate. Pay first of course, but when something like this happens, just find a cracked copy and use with a clear conscience...

Years back, I was trying to get an entire offices 'Microsoft Office' packages activated. Fully legit, bought and paid for, and needed on about 20 workstations - One license per computer - Nothing funny going on, 20 Discks infront of me all legally bought.

Would not work and after an hour or two on the phone to microsoft, still no joy... Guy whos paying me, looking at me like its my fault, so I just said did he care if the copies I put on were the 'same ones' he had paid for? He said he really didn't give a fuck as long as they were all up and running THAT DAY!

So I put a cracked copy on all twenty computers and told him Id get the legit versions working at a later date... He never gave me a time to return, so I assumed he had returned the legit discs to the store, but when I came back about a year later for something else, he still had the discs in the storeroom where I had left them that day...

CurrentlySober 03-29-2020 01:30 PM

Alternatively, you could possibly just run an older version of windows in a virtual box, and use it from there?

Yes i find it annoying, especially with software where new version does not offer absolutely nothing like ioncube.

Horrible ruff, these companies are just awful. Hope they get what's coming for them.

Vendzilla 03-31-2020 02:31 PM

That's messed up, I have CS3 and paid for it.

I started with ultra Dev 4.

candyflip 03-31-2020 03:01 PM

It's 13 year old computer software, it's kind of got to run it's course sooner or later.

So many alternatives these days, if you were ok with using ancient Adobe stuff...you can likely find replacements for free.

Davinci Resolve will cover Premiere, After Effects and Audition with on program and for free.

I agree to an extent - They all have learning curves though - The shitty thing with Adobe is that they actually stop it from working - That's their biz model and to me it's just wrong - Even MS don't do that...

I wouldn't bother - I've been involved in a few and after lawyer fees you get like 12 cents... Unless you just want revenge against Adobe which I can understand.

I only used Dreamweaver and Fireworks out of the entire suite. It worked fine in Windows 10. Yes, it was 13 year old software, but I didn't rent it, I bought it and did not need to replace it. I guess I'll have to use something like Corel Paint Shop Pro and Coffeecup html editor. But who wants a new learning curve? What Adobe did was just a prick move.

Yeah, you're right it wouldn't be worth the effort.

Does it suck, yeah...but not many companies out there even go to that length. Adobe is a shit company, I do my best not to give them a dime...but I'm having a hard time with the idea of forcing them to support old software with money and resources.

I'm sure it's probably pretty easy to workaround this with a crack. If there are a lot of pissed of folks, there will be a workaround in no time, if there isn't already.

The Porn Nerd 04-02-2020 12:57 PM

Horrible. Worse than iTunes putting a shitty U2 album on your iPod without telling you about it. Maybe worse since you actually USE this product.

Hack time brother. What CS said, why good people go pirating and searching torrent sites for free Adobe products.

AmeliaG 04-02-2020 04:47 PM

Yeah, I heard of it when they deactivated CS which I needed to operate an old but very high end film scanner. They offered me CS2 as a replacement. even though I'd already purchased a newer version than that and only needed CS to run my scanner, which CS2 could not do.

Adobe is a company that truly has zero regard for their customers. I look forward to the day when someone else has a better entrant in every category they have a product in.

I don't know about forcing them to support old software. The only reason they even had CS 3 servers for authentication was pirates. I didn't know about these servers, but I never expected any support from them when the software was new, much less 13 years old. But what was the point in shutting down customers that owned the software. It was a cheap tactic to upsell. Adobe offered to replace my suite with CS 6 with a perpetual license for $689. If I just wanted Dreamweaver and Fireworks, the price was $389. So basically they are just thieves and a scumbag company.

What's your point? Oh, your host solution, yeah it doesn't work for me. It might have if I had added it before they deactivated the suite. Who knows. On editing my host file I use MVPS Host file. If you're not using it, give it a try.

delete your copy and all associated files and reinstall it. no reason for it not to work.

Tasty1 04-03-2020 07:34 AM

I have adobe photoshop cc 2017.
No need to connect to their servers and pay.

This is the equivalent of buying a really good pair of shoes. You own them, you like them - maybe they're worn a bit. You go to a cobbler to get them resoled and the cobbler says, sorry can't do that - but I'm confiscating them from you and I'll sell you a new pair that you have to break in all over again and at a much higher price...
