I love shit like this - flatiron building looks the same, everything else changes dramatically. Look at all the urchins. The highline before its second life. Amazing.

EddyTheDog 03-31-2020 04:35 PM

It always amazes me the way everyone dressed up - No matter the occasion - Can you imagine what those people would say now if they stumbled into Walmart!..

Or even me sitting here after not going out for god knows how long - I really do need to have a shower and get changed at some point - There are no issues with people staying 6 feet away from me ATM they would pass out at 12.....

OneHungLo 04-01-2020 02:35 AM

Fascinating video to see how people dressed back then.

_Richard_ 04-01-2020 02:43 AM

it was one dude going around filming the cities, so there is a bunch of content like this

My observation, everybody is more gentleman in this video.

Would be fun if we could get back clothing style from early 20 century where everyone wear suits and hats.

CurrentlySober 04-02-2020 05:16 AM

The thing that 'Stood Out' to me, was the lack of phone numbers on any of the advertisements / billboards.

It would be another 4 years before the first phone call was made, and another 5 before they could be considered commonplace.

I fall into rabbit holes at night watching stuff like this.

Imagine if any of them knew that millions of people in the future over 100 years later would be watching them living their day to day lives...

PornDiscounts-V 04-02-2020 09:01 AM

Imagine walking around in. flojos, Dickies and a bowling shirt. You'd be arrested.

I find it weird that your big takeaway (ie. the thread title) is that everyone in a 109 year old video is dead. Why not title the thread anything more interesting or positive?

Well, if I'm gonna be 100% truthful, I'd have to say that yes, that pretty much IS my takeaway. I see it that everyone there had their own life that they were living. They had their own friends, relationships, familys, jobs, bills that needed paying, places that they lived etc etc, and were all probably stressed in one way or another with issues that were were particular to them, in that day, which we wouldn't even consider or be relevant in this day and age...

And despite all those thousands of people, from young babies yet to live their lives, to elderly men with but one leg, assuredly about to end thiers.... They are all dead, and no longer exist at all. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM has had their full life, from birth to their death, and now they are gone. We don't know their names, who they were, what their likes and dislikes were... But it doesn't matter. Because the world has kept on turning...

Likewise, one day WE will all be gone and perhaps someone will be saying the same about our generation.... And as such, it made me think...

That it doesn't really matter, in the greater scheme of things, what WE DO or DON'T DO... Life is SO SHORT. None of us will live forever. Some guys reading this will still be in their 20s now or even younger, but Im heading towards my older years now, with a mathematical certainty of less life left to live that I have lived already...

We have this virus atm, which is genuinely scary (Yes I admit that I find it scary) and seeing that movie is a reminder of what a brief time we get to spend upon this earth... And we need to realise that, and make the most of the time we do have. And at the same time, be aware, that nothing we do really matters - So just enjoy life while you can...

So yes - Everyone in that movie is dead - I stand by my thread title :2 cents:

That and it's also suitable ambiguous enough to be clickbait, and I need the views on my sig... :upsidedow

I was half expecting a video from one of the old AVN shows or similar...

My maternal grandmother was born in 1901, she had my mum when she was 49 - She went to the docs thinking it was the menopause and had the shock of her life - There are some amazing pics around with her dressed in all her finery just like the video.....

As much as it's disheartening to read what you said here... I gotta say I agree 100% :Oh crap

New York at that time was much better than countries right now: buildings, streets, traffic ... etc.
Amazing New York

3rd time seeing this vid from last yr. always enjoy it. Could you imagine all the jaywalking tickets that would've been given out today. But then again, these days idiots still don't know how to cross the street properly.
