OP I can recommend Electrum or Trezor wallet, for the latter you need to purchase the Trezor gadget as well. It acts as a hardware wallet.

bitcoin core is the best and you dont have to download the whole blockchain, but you anything other than that,

so i say the "bitcoin wallet app" it's not third party
