No idea, I watched it in Polish with no subtitles but if I had to guess, probably the subs are more accurate. They have to fit the dubbing within the same rough timeframe as the polish words otherwise the mouth looks too desyncronized and it comes out like a 70s kung fu movie. Neither will be "correct" though as Polish and English are so different that you can never translate in a 1:1 fashion.

Now, many people do not like the director of that movie. He makes cheesy action flicks. I personally like his shit.
I recommend the following, they are on Polish netflix so maybe you have them too
- Botoks
- All the pitbull movies (including the newer ones)
- Women of Mafia 1 and 2

All are by the same director. You will often see the same actors in them as well, but they aren't necessarily the same roles and celebrities which can be confusing - he often reuses the same actors in various films.
There's also a good movie, dunno if you will find it in english or with subs but "Weekend" (also mafia-esque movie but comedy)

cool, thanks - netflix is billing this film as a netflix original -how is polish so vastly different than english? I has seen the theory that english has different grammer than german, even though english is a germanic language, is due to the grammatical structure of celtic languages... who knows...

Similarly to German, we have words that don't exist in the english language and to translate requires 3-4 words. They can write that shit out with subtitles, but you can't dub 4 words in the place of 1 so the sentence has to be changed entirely and sometimes it doesn't "pack the same punch".

The plagues movie is not a netflix original. The guy actually made it as a showmax exclusive, and then basically right as he was going to release it they closed up shop in Poland and he was left without a distributor. They probably bought exclusive rights or struck some deal.

That Skrzydlate świnie one is called Flying Pigs in english.

Just to be very clear - most polish movies are complete dog shit. What I've written here are the outliers :)

please, if anyone will watch what Konrad recommended, dont think that this is the best of the Polish cinema. Its not even average.

from the movies there i watched maybe 5-6, and only liked "Pianist". But as for Polanski, its actually so-so movie. Too much "hollywood" and "mainstream", without his usual "details" here and there. But yeah, Polanski as a director is just great :thumbsup

You have to factor in one thing. Shit like Pitbull is very hollywood. I grew up in Canada so I will have different taste - I think he will probably like the new Pitbulls.

There are a lot of movies on this list that he simply won't understand because he didn't live or know about PRL era... they won't have the same effect. Yes, Dzień Świra is a great movie but not something one will understand it without spending 5-10 years in Poland at least...

you guys ever watch 'film noir'.... that stuff was written by mostly 'eastern european' writes that fled after WWII. some of that stuff is really strange, that's what i like about it, the unexpected. the film I just watched in this post that is that way. like killing them softly with brad pit
