What is the point in Fortnite?

I wanted to like it, I really did, but I just don't get the point... OK, so Im up against 99 other people, all who have been playing it for years and had thousands of hours of practice, and I'm supposed to beat all of them? Yeah, like not gonna happen...

So, I can play with friends in squads? I don't have any friends, so thats a non starter...

I really end up thinking that I just don't get the point. Perhaps if they got rid of the boring building aspect, I wouldn't need to hit trees, and if we got rid of the guns, I'd get a longer game, but I really just don't get it... :(

Really though... What IS the point? :helpme

You run around and collect things and kill people. Kind of like real life.

I'm a crap builder but I can usually get to the last 10.

If you really want to do well you will have to set up build macros on your keyboard etc.

Have you tried Overwatch? You might like it better.

I watched a couple of 'getting started' videos on youtube... They mostly said start off in 'squads' cause then you get 3 computer assigned 'teammates' to play with. They also told me I had to use headphones, cause then the other players could talk to me, guide me, and I could talk back to them.

So I did... Big mistake. One 'teammate' just kept shouting 'Black Lives Matter' over and over again, and my other two teammates sounded about 8 years old each, and were talking a language I that didnt understand (Poss Japanese?) So that was no good. Tried again and this time I didnt get Black Lives Matter, but 3 gobby children, who I actually felt almost awkward being able to hear them, like I was hiding in the bushes at a playpark... So I stopped playing...

I am sad. I just spent over 3 and a half grand on my PC so I could play fortnite, and now I find it very dissapoointing...

Try Team Rumble. Its 2 teams trying to be the first to get to 125 kills. Loot is not a problem. You'll get a better feel for it and its a little more enjoyable. Don't really need to build and you will respawn as long as the match continues (15-20 minutes)

Get on Fortnite Team Rumble, practice there the game mechanics.

It's not that hard... I have probably around 150-200 wins...

I assume so. I just followed two Japanese players, trying to see what they did. The BLM guy went off on his own, yelling all the way... :(

You can get a victory Royal even as a newb. Case in point, I got my 1st within a few days of playing.
With squads, you can play with 3 random people, you don't need to know them or talk to them. It's a good way to win actually.

Lol. Fortnite is a kids game. Expect to hear kids then.

beavr 06-07-2020 01:32 PM

Those 6yo kids will kick your ass right away LOL

Petra 06-08-2020 09:01 AM

Loaded it up the other night and teamed up with my husband. Came in 3rd in our first match.

If you don't get Fortnight, don't ever try to play Eve Online. LOL

Kittens 06-08-2020 10:53 AM

Short answer: To win.

You don't have to build, there's a lot of major players who rarely build, they have skills in winning fights not building massive skyscrapers.

That being said, I gave up on Fortnite about a year ago. I primarily play COD Warzone.

My tactic is to hide and sneak. It works surprisingly well. Shoot them fuckers while they are mining cars and buildings, ha!

F U S I O N 06-08-2020 09:51 PM

I play very casually. I don't camp (I did when I first started) and my building generally consists of ramps and just a occasional wall between myself and gunfire... I want to be really good at it but I'm just not. I grew up on Donkey Kong and Mega Man and I can't compete with these 6 year old kids. I will more often than not play Team Rumble to have fun and not spend a majority of my time online standing in the lobby... That said, I still have 5 or 6 solo wins under my belt

Thomas Grotheer 06-08-2020 11:09 PM

If you guys plan to make a group for Fortnite, let me know :D

squads have skill-based matchmaking so if you're fresh, you are likely to be facing a lot of bots and a lot of real players on your level.

My son games a lot. But I originally bought my Xbox 1 so we could game together when he went back to his mom's house. His skill level is much higher when it comes to games like this and I couldn't really hang with him on games like COD. He suggested Fortnite back in like season 2 or 3 because it would be a bit easier for me skill-wise. He has of course moved on to other games like Rainbow Six and Warzone but I still pretty much only play Fortnite. I love watching him play those games but I cant play 'em lol
