Proud To Be A New Yorker!
New York State has led the way on two major fronts this year: Covid-19 and racism/police reform. While other States are seeing their coronavirus numbers going UP New York State now has the lowest % of Covid-19 cases and is handling the re-opening in a smart, safe way that is not leading to a spike in cases. Wow!
While looting and rioting did happen in New York City it was handled quickly and we got it under control. Now? Governor Cuomo and the NYS legislature have signed into law the most sweeping police department reforms in history. No more choke holds, no more blatant racism in dealing with minority communities, independent investigations into police misconduct....wow! New York State has always led the way in social change and reform and I am PROUD to be a New Yorker on this day! America: follow the leader and start enacting these new policies now. :2 cents: |

And NYC is the safest big city in America because Rudy was tough on crime (Broken Windows, anyone?) You're literally doing the opposite of what Rudy did in the 90s. Check back here in 5 years and see what NYC looks like when you get easy, instead of tuff on crime. |
Quote:
You can still be tough on crime and NOT be a racist. You can still be tough on crime AND be a law abiding police officer who will protect, serve and help communities and not see enemies everywhere. And let's hope 5, 10, 20+ years from now we won't see anymore innocent citizens choked to death. |

Are you even serious with this? Quote:
I'm all for better training but you need to focus on the people committing the crime. And if the non-whites are committing 87-97% of the violent crime (And they are, backed by crime stats) then you need to focus on those people. You guys are already fucking up NYC by getting soft on crime.
https://i.imgur.com/6sU8LUd.png Like I said, check back in 5 years. 5 more years of Democrat leadership and we'll be back to 1980s crime levels. |
Again you can "focus on crime" AND still not be a racist murderer. Why is that so hard for people to understand? No one is saying do not arrest criminals. People are saying STOP KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE and alleged criminals. It is not the job of cops to be executioners.
And please stop with all the Covid-19 misinformation and political bullshit. Wear masks, stay at home, STOP gathering in large numbers and wait it out. Like real men dammit!! :) |
And I thought you'd be proud of the gritty, sleazy New York of the 70's . . .
|
Quote:
I am too young to have experienced those 70's years. I got into NYC in 1986 or so but boy how I remember hookers in Times Square! And 25 cent peep shows, buddy booths, glory holes at the YMCA (with duct tape so you wouldn't prick your prick), touch 'em strip shows ($2 for the top, $3 for the bottom), blowjobs in the Show World parking lot for $5....sigh. Now it's all Disney and the M&M store. Horrible. |
New york has certainly had it this year, however, Sanchez, the PM for Spain, and the Spanish communities have most definitely handled the COVID19 pandemic better than any other country.
The virus hit on the 13th of April, by the 14th we were in lockdown and 2 weeks later, our figures were dropping, and now, for the past month, we have zero covid19 cases on the Orihuela Coast and only a few throughout Spain. I´m proud of the community I live. |

Good job Spain!! |
The best place on earth :pimp

I love New York.
I'll be back when things return to normal. |
Quote:
When is New York ever "normal"? :1orglaugh |

This whole thing is ridiculous and honestly you always come across as a pretty sensible guy so I'm kind of surprised at your take on this. Because on the totem pole of black people problems, this should be like near the absolute bottom. 8 unarmed black men (We'll talk about blacks because whites & asians could care less when the cops take out criminals) have been killed in 2 years. Considering there are 44 million black people in the US, If you're black you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning 12+ fucking times in a year before a cop kills you. And no, that's not hyperbole (look it up). Meanwhile 80 (yes EIGHTY) fucking black people were shot in a small section of a city in America last weekend. And PS - black people have the same homicide rate here as they do in Botswana. |

I am not going to debate statistics or angles or perspectives or history or any of that stuff. I am just saying changes CAN be made and New York is (again) leading the way in making some of those changes. More is needed but it's a great start. |

Yeah, you won't be happy if old gritty new york comes back. You're older now, you aren't as tough, you'll be more of a magnet for criminals.

I can get a (tranny) blowjob (on the street) for 5 USD around here . . . |

Without is usually an extra $2. :1orglaugh |
I miss the times when squeegy guys get mad at you for not paying them for the work they did on your windshield
Also, the smell of piss on Broadway was enough to reconnect the human soul to eternal truths Thank goodness, DeBlasio is doing a great job bringing back the 1970s New York of "Taxi Driver" |
Quote:
Also, I think the riots were handled badly. The Village and Soho are a mess. They just let people run amok the first night. The legislation passed is good. I'm glad that cops' disciplinary records are no longer sealed. I'm hoping NYC rebounds fast. My fortune is tied to it. Found a partner and opening 3 shops, two in Manhattan one in Astoria. This deal would have never happened without the pandemic. Gonna be interesting to see how fast we get back to "normal"... God bless America!!! |
NYC skewed the numbers and fucked things up for the rest of us when it was looking bad.
Now the rest of the state is doing things the right way (and have since day one). The city is still fucked, and now in more ways than one. |

All the best (from this beast) . . . |

Now being in Manhattan is like being stuck in a dystopian Disney yuppie nightmare. :( Bring back the streetwalkers and bookies!! Quote:
As for people in Brooklyn gathering: I am in Manhattan and I see the same things. But that's on the individuals, not Cuomo. I see people "wearing" masks down around their necks! Like, wtf you asshole idiot!! I don't understand why you wouldn't wear a mask just to be more safe than sorry. The riots and looting were bad but relatively short lived. It was made 1000x worse because of the lockdown and everyone being cooped up inside their apartments. By Summer's end I could be taking back my proud of New York stance but for now it's looking good. We shall see. Good luck with your pizza joints!! I will come to the Grand Openings. :) |

It wasn't gritty, it was rough. The drugs were bad and the hookers were beaten every week. There was like one good hooker at any one time. The rich people had their limos and their security and they went to clubs we couldn't get in. I agree the place has become a sterile nightmare of condos and chain stores but I'd rather the late 90s. |
Quote:
The Nineties were 'the sweet spot' in New York City. Just enough cool to be cool while 100x safer and cleaner. Plus, the music was better when CBGB's and The Bottom Line were still around. Oh - and actual cafes instead of Starbucks on every corner. |

And another thing about the virus, cases are "supposed" to go up when states ease restrictions. The virus is here to stay and we all started out with a plan to flatten the curve. Somehow, that was forgotten and we had the idea in us that we needed to stomp the virus out. It doesn't work that way. The flu doesn't go away. There is no cure and a vaccine will take a long time. Some countries who locked down hard got hit hard, and some who didn't lock down hard and fast didn't get hit very hard at all (India/Japan). There isn't always a correlation between lockdown intensity and speed and deaths/cases. NY got hit hard because of population density and a host of other factors we don't understand yet. New Zealand did well because they have a small population that's spread out and happen to be on an island. Anyone can do well if they have those ideal conditions. Let's see what happens when they open up to foreigners which they will have to do one day. They can't close forever and so they will see cases rise because the virus is here to stay, that's how the flu works. We can't stay closed forever, or even sustain these semi-open states of operating. The consequences are already starting to show and politicians are scrambling like mad to open up to try to avoid a really bad recession (and worse) because their advisors are showing them what's coming if we don't. Why do you think the EU is opening for tourism so fast? They are opening borders to allow and desperately "invite" masses of people from other countries to POUR into theirs so they can spend money. Talk about crowds! Why would they do this? Because they are all having an "oh shit" moment and trying to save their countries economically, which is about way more than money. ... |

Go ahead and make sure you have smoke and motion alarms for where you live now. |
As much as I miss my home for the first 30 years of my life, I am glad I am not around with that idiot de Blasio in charge. He is such a useless twat that the piece of garbage in Albany Cuomo even had to step in.
Thankfully The Honeymooners is on WPIX on Saturday night at 11 and if I'm home I watch it to bring back good memories and lots of laughs. |

Born and raised in NYC. Crazy 80's baby raised in the grimey 90's. We're a special breed.
I will always be proud to be a bonafide New Yorker to the core, but it ain't the same city anymore. The things I grew up on, though some of it fucked up, defined the city. It lost the grittiness that always called me back home. I love to visit, but living there is a no go now that I know what it's like to have a big ass house, yards, land, privacy etc. |
