How to start campaign for medical bills?
 

Long story short, my neighbor is fighting cancer. She is strong and independent woman and I really want to help her.

What is the best way to do it? GoFundMe came to my mind first, do I have a chance to collect money on that site?

There are several key steps that you need to take to increase your success in raising money. You will need:

- a story about your friend, who is she, and what makes her life more special and worth saving, or why reduce her suffering when there are others that also have cancer.

- before and after cancer photos

- documentation to be posted online that can be verified that she indeed has cancer, where exactly she is being treated, proof of her expenses, etc.

- reach out to all her closest friends, neighbors, colleagues and relatives asking for small contribution of financial help and assistance with spreading the word about the fundraising campaign.

- contact various women's support groups for cancer, and more importantly the Serbian community outside of Serbia.

You are/she is either Muslim or Orthodox Christian. I don't understand the Muslim traditions, but you have two opportunities with the Orthodox churches. Ask them to share your friends story and GFM link to their members via email, and/or ask that during the weekly church service, a second collection basket be passed around in the name of Cancer and your friend, and ask that 50-100 percent of that cash/check collection be forwarded to XYZ Bank, Account 000 for the care/expenses of ___________. Create a flyer/poster graphic for marketing material.

Okay, shit just got real, I just found out she needs 14000 dollars for three therapies. Let's say friends and family raise around 10000 dollars, maybe even 12000, can we raise 2-3000 dollars for this woman if I provide all documentation? I don't know if this is allowed by the law but I'll try. But I know 100% that she has cancer. But we have to do it outside GFY, I don't want her name on adult webmaster forum.

I can answer some questions here - she is not terminally ill, there is still time, but we must act fast. We are Orthodox Christians, we are from Serbia, her family does everything they can to raise money locally.

I am not trying to be a hero, I am just trying to do something right at least once in my life. This is why I try to organize online fundraiser.

Move to Russia. A mother of my friend has lived about 6 years with 4st grade cancer (the terminal one). The surgery, chemio and pills were free. She was able to live full life, care of her grand children, work on dacha etc. Unfortunately she has passed away recently, but she haven't needed any donations. Which country does your neighbor live in? Some African 3rd-world? We have many people from Ghana here, so perhaps, your neighbor will be able to get visa too. BTW, a HIV treatment is also free here (you don't have to pay anything).

Here is a low cost alternative. This guy used a dog dewormer (available on Amazon) because the active ingredient is effective against cancer. Here is a link to download his journey. He covers everything in the document and he is getting quite a following online.
