Do you work 8 hours a day but only produce 1 hour of actual results?
It's easy to get excited about the idea that you can handle many things at once
You can be on the phone with your graphics designer while writing out your latest blog post while listening to an audio course. All the while, you have several tabs open so you can pick out a header photo for your post, figure out which Facebook groups to post your latest content to, and which Pinterest Pinboard to post on. You might think by pulling all these off you are being "productive" The truth? You waste a lot of mental focus and will power switching from one task to the next. Instead of actually doing SEVERAL TASKS at once, you're actually SWITCHING from task to task - each stops as you focus on another task. You burn through a lot of your WILL POWER and your ability to DO THINGS BETTER AND FASTER because you lose sight of the CONTEXT of the task This is a CONTEXT SWITCHING penalty No wonder so many of us put in 8 hour days but only have EXHAUSTION and maybe 1 HOUR'S WORTH OF WORK to show for it! Here's a productivity video on how it all plays out and 5 ways you can build focus and concentration (and get more things done!) |
