Anyone got the Oculus Rift S, and is it still a good buy in mid 2020?

I know its not the top of the range like the valve index etc, but the valve index has huge wait times, and I'm thinking that rather than wait and wait for the next big thing, I may as well get into it 'mid range' so to speak.

Mostly gonna be using it sat in a rig for driving sims, as opposed to leaping around the room waving my arms about etc...

I particularly like the 'inside out' tracking - Not so keen on having to have base stations... Anyway, what do you think? worth it or not?

i am totally annoyed by the cable - but i am no high end gamer, whatever runs on the Quest is good enough for me

I got a Rift S in lockdown (at an inflated price!) and its pretty good with iracing.
Very cool being able to look around the car and out the side windows to see other cars.
Theres a big debate whether triple monitors or VR is better but I'd take VR as its more immersive and you really do feel 'in the car'.
No idea what the Valve unit is like but couldn't wait which is why i got the Rift.

Any VR unit makes you hot so a little fan is a good idea (and adds realism) and the resolution isn't like that of of monitor but its still good and immersive.
Having no base stations is a massive bonus too. The less clutter the better.
Make sure your graphics card has a spare display port connection though.

I've since discovered that it doesn't have an adjustable IPD.

Knowing my eyesight, chances is are I'll be one of the small percentage it doesn't work correctly on... Unless I can get to try one in person, I think I'm gonna have to keep looking... :(

You can adjust it in the software settings.
