Serious poost about cool and unusual uses for old smartphones.
So, Ive got my Galaxy S7 about to be made redundant by my pixel 4a when it arrives in the UK. So I'm thinking of what can I do with my S7 when it no longer has a sim card in it, and its no longer my daily driver... Sure, I could sell it for pennies, and sure, I could put it away in a drawer (as a backup in case of an emergency) or could I do something else with it?
I could hook up a security cam somewhere and use it plugged in as a dedicated display, even recording footage, or giving me an alarm on certain event triggers, or I might mount it to my sim rig, to use as another display... But maybe I'm missing out on something much better and more useful, that I simply have not thought of? Any ideas guys? What cool things have you done with your old, yet still fully working smartphones? :helpme |
You could turn it into one of those digital photo frames and just let it rotate photos of funny shaped turds, every couple of seconds.
OR Install a SQL + PHP server app. Let your phone fetch some data (like connecting to an API), do something with that data and then serve it back (or upload it back) to your own hosted website/server, to reduce the load. Kinda like a cronjob. Would be perfect for custom cam sites that need to fetch a lot of data from API's every x minutes. OR Setup an IPFS node. OR Just throw it out of the window. |
Turn it into a listening device. Hide it in your bathroom.
At the end of the year, Make a slideshow of your friends' profile pics with their bathroom sounds. Post it on facebook and tag them. or maybe set up a VPN server. I think you can do that. |

Factory reset the phone, and set up a bogus profile to hide the data from low-skilled restore attack... Then recycle it - mother nature will appreciate it and we know you can afford it.

use it as an sms spammer or to bot social media.
