When I was there you could do whatever you wanted, as long as you paid; Coke, vodka, guns, whores and worse - they dident care and I doubt I would be able to shock them. They seemed like people who have seen it all... and that is why I will never return to that shithole of a region.

In the hotels you can drink alko there non stop 24/7. In most of 4-5* hotels

I know that you can't be intoxicated in public there.

I know. As well as your apartments and in the bars for foreigners. I've been to Dubai and know the rules. However now everybody can sell and buy vodka w/o a license there.

Not sure about smoking. I'm used to drinking it. Here is my tea (1400 rubles for a pack) and I don't think someone in Dubai will sniff my cup...

The last time I've been there was about 10 years ago...

I have an old school friend who lives there and she is always posting pics of her in various pubs and bars - They might be hotels but one at least looks like a typical English pub - I will have to ask her about the place one day - She always liked a drink...

Once again. Alcohol was always legal in Dubai (in special bars for foreigners)... almost everywhere: bars in hotels, bars in restaurants, bars in malls, bars... in bars. My initial post was not about those places, actually. Right now everybody can sell vodka w/o a special permit (license) and everybody can buy it, including locals.

I was there 18 months ago and everyone was pretty cautious outside of upscale foreigner bars and events. We were told by the hotel staff to be careful. So this is new if true.

Almost went to jail there for having a smoke outside my hotel during ramadan.

Dubai isn't nice. It's nice for a few block radius and then it's trash for everywhere else.

They had crazy marketing making the world think the place was some oasis

The desert is cool, and it has good shops and no income tax. I don't really enjoy it. It also acts like it still has oil money but it doesn't.
