Or do you have something a bit more modern and secure, like a fingerprint reader or somesuch?

If so, please poost your recommendations. Something for the main front door - Don't need to allow remote access etc - Just to get in and out myself, without worrying about a key :)

I just have a big dog.

And there is usually plenty of poo.

I've considered upgrading the front door to be more techie, I guess. There's not really an issue with smart burglars in my area, though. Just opportunistic meth heads and since I'm mostly home and have two working GSD's, pretty unlikely anyone will be that dumb. :)

Locks keep honest people honest :2 cents:

I used to have a keypad on my door for years, I never carried keys.

Smart devices kind of annoy me though, I have a Ring doorbell but I don't think I'd want an electronic wifi lock setup with it.

I get annoyed with how often I need to change the damn batteries.

70% of all break ins are the back door. I suggest a visible camera at both.

Get something like a ASSA 1200 series(or other industri standard) lock, and then a standard home alarm.

No point in getting something more complex, because it will just end up getting too expensive down the road, when you need new keys or service.

I have video at all entries to our Farm (D-link nightvision) so it's all covered by insurance. If they want to steal my cars or bikes, no lock will keep them out anyways.

Keypad on my doors. Cameras lurking close. Steel rolling shutters over all but the front windows. Nest thermostats. Alexa and other automations. I'm almost always home anyway.

I don't worry about much.

Steel rolling shutters? that sounds like a fairly rough area to live in

It gets 118F here with 300+ days of sunshine per year, and sometimes we get 50mph - 65mph wind storms. I have double and triple french doors on the back, it's a lot of glass to protect from both the sun and the wind. Plus they really cut down on the noise when the landscapers are in the neighborhood.

I keep a key tied to my belt with a piece of twine that I tuck into the small pocket in my shorts. had a stalker for a minute when I first moved but security at the front gate is keeping him out and my neighbors like and protect me. only dead bolt when I'm alone, otherwise the front door is unlocked. balcony door hasn't been closed since I moved in
