Why is my laptop so loud?

This is a tech question for tech people. Like Mark Prince for example.

I have a Lenovo laptop. It's new. It's got a SSD but it makes a lot of noise from the fan. Why?
My wife has a cheapo gereric laptop with no branding. $200 cheaper.
Hers is also SSD but with much smaller HDD. Hers is always silent.

Admittedly I do use it a lot and it's on for several hours but usually it's only browsing the web with 5-10 tabs open and a few apps running in the background.

She does a lot of photoshop. I literally never even hear the fan on hers. Why?

Is mine broke?

Fan could be dirty or getting ready to go out on you.

Blow it out or Vacuum it out real good.

I should have mentioned I only just got it. My old one packed up. It would only be early December I guess.
It's quite at the moment. I closed a few apps and shut my PC down for a while.

When did you get that bad boy? I wanted one a few years ago but the price was too steep.

ErotiContent 01-20-2021 05:36 PM

If you got it less than a month ago and are already hearing fan noises - it could relate to a possibly bigger problem.

It could be something is wrong with the fan, or the fan has some sort of obstacle. (Dust can accumulate rapidly - depending on the model and the airflow inlets designed on the laptop).

Or that the CPU is heating up rapidly. I believe you haven't overclocked your CPU or anything?

Download Speedfan - almico.com/speedfan.php - it monitors Fan speed.

And download Speccy (It's from the guys that make CCleaner) - ccleaner.com/speccy

Speccy will help you analyze temperature in real-time. See if you notice an unnecessary spike. If so, your CPU could be in trouble.

How come you always leave something out?

A typical Pink24 post:

Title: I am having trouble with Fido.

Post: Ever since we moved into the new house FIDO doesn't come up the stairs when I call.

Could he be sick?

Thanks for the answers.

Reply (from anybody): Well he might be having trouble adjusting to the new place.

Pink24 Reply: I forgot to mention that FIDO is a turtle.

Check temperatures and compare them to normal temperatures to your laptop model. Then you should check settings and enable power mode to balanced or lower, cause in "power" mode all laptops are noisy. Also - check other users reports, maybe this noise is OK for your model.
If nothing helps - you can show laptop to specialists, maybe manufactory fault will appear.
I bought my brand new HP omen with broken fans... Happens sometimes :(

Is the hard disk, the HD will fail soon...

Is it a HP Spectre? I have recently bought a new one, and have the same problem

Applebite Media 01-22-2021 07:03 AM

Sounds like the processor is working too hard and getting hot. I have this happen on my desktop if I am in a graphically intense program or doing 3d rendering or gaming. Mostly only happens in Windows, I never hear my fan in Linux...

I also have an HP laptop with the same issue... fine under normal operation, however, if I have too much open the fan spins out of control LOL.

You can try to upgrade the fan to a better one to keep your machine cooler, or change some start up features to lessen the load on boot. And there is always the possibility you got a defective part. It does happen from time to time. It's new, under warranty, take it in.

You can also get a laptop (stand?) with fans to help keep it cool.

Good luck. Hope some of this helps.

This is such a unique situation.
Lenovos are always loud, make sure your laptop is elevated a bit, like don't use it while it's on your lap, if it's on the desk - buy a cooler special type of cooler people put under the laptop to keep the cpu cool. I assume you keep everything clean so dust is not the issue here. Lenovos have a bad reputation because of their cooling system, often a stronger computers suffer more since their CPU heats up much more but the cooling system is the same as on the weaker models. SSD or HDD don't play a role in this. Also if your wife does photoshop she stresses the computer much more than you if you are only browsing even with 20 tabs open. Make sure the computer doesn't have any dents that can cause the fan to be unstable. Hope it helps, stay safe bud

Get AIDA Extreme: https://www.aida64.com/

Monitor heat of CPU, speed fan etc ...

My asus I5 ( 4 years old )was shutting down and noisy . Cleaned the fan ( not only blowing air, but removing and inspecting ) .
Laptop is now on a support with 2 fan, as the ASUS design is flawed : with lid closed ( as I use it ) , the vents to exhaust the air are blocked !!!
Since , no noise and no shutdown .

PS: increased mem from 6 gig ( 2 fixed + 4 removable ) to 10 gig ( 2 fixed, 8 removable ) : amazing increase in speed of opening apps and tabs. Disk is already upgraded to SSD

best is to google for other experiences. Most of the time many people has the same problems. Maybe needs an update of some software.

I need to open my laptop at least after a year to clean the fans, depending where i am staying. I think every 6 months is better.

Mine has 4 fans. So all can run quiet instead of maximum speed.

After 2 years my laptop is at the end of his lifecycle. Sometimes earlier when i drop coffeee.
