Computer Question....
Hey...
So I upgraded my processor finally... went from and i5 to an i9. Wheeeeee!!!! So I can get into linux, as I am here writing this.... however, when I try to load windowz 10, the fucking thing keeps shutting down the system. God I hate windowz!!!! Any ideas? Thanks :thumbsup |
Could be RAM / Mobo issue. What happens / triggers during shutdown??
|
Post the rest of your computer specs - Motherboard make and model, which i9 ? + ram make and size / speed
If you just yanked your i5 out amd stuffed an i9 into the socket, just cause it 'fitted' doesnt mean its gonna play nice with the rest of it... Linux can pretty much run on a potato. Which is a GOOD thing :) |
If you have an older i5 it could be possible that it's not compatible with your motherboard. As someone mentioned, you can't always just swap the processor and be done with it.

The LGA socket for i9 i believe is 1200 and i5 is 1155 or 1151, depending on generation. Physically will fit in the socket but is definitely different architecture. |
If not for compatibility issue you remove the CMOS battery, then insert it back again.. then start your PC.
Computer needs to recognize the new processor. |
Sorry for the delay all.... Thanks for the help!
Seems the cooling fan was not good enough for the new chip. Kept overheating and shutting down in windows, Linux I just received a system message with the warning to shut down. Just replaced the cooling fan, Next day prime my ass! LOL.... things seem to be fine so far. Now to boot windows. Fingers crossed. Thanks again!! |
