Serious Question: What do you HAPPILY WASTE money on?

Me? Online competitions and draws. Especially since the lockdown I find myself buying tickets to try and win Harley Davidsons (Even though I have not even passed a Bike test) or crazy fun vehicles, such as a pimped out 1972 Restored Dune Buggy, which would be totally impractical, but a bit of fun for a week or so before I inevitably sold it!

I mean, the comps are all above board and legit - Im NOT getting scammed - Just haven't been lucky yet - However, I'm still wasting money, chasing prizes I don't really even want, just for fun...

What about you? What are you wasting money on for fun during lockdown?

(I know we are not in 'Lockdown, Lockdown' anymore - But we are not back to normal yet either...)

I have a massive Amazon wish list full of books. Every now and then I will do a sort, from lowest to highest, and just buy anything under $5. I had to stop doing that because my book collection was getting so huge and I never got around to reading them anyway, LOL.

HairyChick 04-21-2021 04:14 PM

Books for my Kindle.

baddog 04-21-2021 04:32 PM

+1 :thumbsup :2 cents:

And on colored pencil sets for my daughters.

But I don't think these are in the 'wasting money' category anyway.

I wasted shitload of money on weed and now I regret it :D :pimp

Last few weeks i have bought up stuff making arcade emulation systems linking usb and hdmi switches all on wifi.
X-arcade tankstick with trackball
50000 games super x console pro
10000 games usb hdmi stick
8000 games pandoras box 3d saga.
90000 games rasberry pi3b+
17000 games rasberry pi4
Hope to build up a high end ps4 and pinball machine to go with it. Have about 600 tables roms.
Have a bunch of androids i am putting emulation station etc on wasted a bit of money but not really caring.

Applebite Media 04-22-2021 04:41 AM

I would have to say weed... but not sure that is really a waste. I don't like man-made medicine so I self-medicate.

I stopped buying video games with Assassins Creed Valhalla and started putting my money into learning to make that stuff LOL.

I suppose the biggest actual waste would be my Tobacco habit. Overly taxed, I'm highly addicted, and it's killing me with each one I smoke. Serves no purpose what-so-ever. Total waste! $10.15 a day... waste!

But I do it with a smile! LOL

I've got 5 kids so money is wasted buying games/toys/clothes for them. In the off chance my wife and I buy things for the backyard to make it more fun since the kids are under Covid lockdown. We bought a Kazeboo and set it up so that the kids have a place to go after they got out of the pool or trampoline. I wanted to buy a smart TV for my bedroom since everyone else in the house has one but realized - when the hell do I get to even have a chance to sit and watch it??

My wife and I after we get the kids to sleep around 9pm order in baskin robins or dairy queen and just try to relax - that's about it.

I think though now that you mention it I should start putting money away for when we can travel to take all of us on a trip somewhere either Disney or Cuba (wherever) just for fun.

Sid70 04-23-2021 07:00 AM

First, I stopped buying coffee on the go. The fucking thing was like $200 a month. Now, I have been saving it for a year and gonna blow away on the first possibility to travel down south :)

Yep. Its running off a Pi3 atm which can be a bit slow in the menus. I'm gonna put a mini PC in at some point and run a 'coinops' version but right now its all set up exactly how I like it :)

Ferus 04-23-2021 01:53 PM

Hardly ever shop for clothes or accessories. But I have three things I spend many thousands on each month

- Education
- Books
- And mashines

I just spend $6500 on a new earthdrill(US made - could not find one from Japan that fit) for one of my mashine, so I can dig 40cm diameter holes for plants or poles, without breaking my back.

... just love mashines that can save me time and pain

Jazzix 04-23-2021 04:57 PM

Beer and smokes

Lottery tickets

Flights and hotels to nice tropical hotspots... although put on hold for now....

Lottery tickets - did anyone manage to win at least 1000 bucks?

EddyTheDog 04-24-2021 01:44 AM

Virtual Machines - I used to buy tech to see how far I could push my home machine - Now I buy an hour on a super computer and see how far I can push them instead - Crazy waste of money...

And wine of course.....

I personally hate that sentiment - It's backwards ! YOLO. You Only Live Once...

Bullshit ! You only DIE once... You LIVE EVERY Single day !

Every morning I wake up and think - OK, NEW DAY - What shall I do? And I try to make that day as good as I possibly can. As if I might Die tomorrow...

I don't mean be silly and run up huge debts, or live as if I have zero consequences... But just live every day to my best. I don't think, 'Well I'll do that because I only live once' I think 'I'll do that because I want to...'

Not really - The clue is in my sig. If I'm being serious, I don't fly my sig (Unless I accidentally forget to switch it off)

When I'm being 'CurrentlySober' Poo sig is loud and proud!

So not 'Breaking Character' so much as being myself :thumbsup

Fuzzarts 04-24-2021 07:05 AM

Synthesisers, drum machines, effect units. Love it!

fuzebox 04-24-2021 10:06 AM

- Food and wine, both at home and at restaurants, precovid I would happily book an international trip for one restaurant reservation

- Snowboard gear and trips, I like to drive or fly to wherever the powder is a few times a month. Heliskiing is great fun

- I go through phases with car parts, if it's been a few months since I've spent a few grand I forget

Ooh, yes, I love equipment and tools, don't even have to be mechanical, just anything with the potential to facilitate productivity, doing things better/faster/more comfortably.

Don't like to waste money, most doesnt fit in my suitcase anyway. Only want a good laptop and rent a nice house at a beach without neighbours.

dillonaire 04-24-2021 09:44 PM

Eating at restaurants and outsourcing menial tasks like lawn care, house cleaning and laundry.

PorcoRosso 06-14-2021 03:20 AM

Online video games... these pixels cost sometimes a fortune :)

dcortez 06-14-2021 04:30 AM

I try not to waste money, but most of my rare discretionary dollars go to solar panels and batteries these days.

There is something fun about running on 100% solar power in the bush, WITH high speed internet.
