Looks like the next webmaster access the Red Light District in Amsterdam will be closed. And don't be excited over the name GREEN LIGHT DISTRICT. Coffeeshops will be gone also. They mean GREEN like sustainable, not weed.

Place for 100 sex workers in a new erotic center outside the Red Light District
A new erotic center that the municipality wants to replace the window prostitution in the Red Light District is expected to have about 100 work rooms. Sex workers can take place behind a window here, or receive contacts via the internet.

Two cafes and a strip club, sex theater or some other form of erotic entertainment are also likely to be located in the building. This is stated in a market survey sent to the city council by Mayor Femke Halsema. (politcal party: "GreenLeft")

Whenever I decide I wanna do something or go somewhere these days, but think to myself 'Yeah, I wanna do that, but not right now because... (Reasons)' I now make an effort to do it there and then, cause even if its only visiting a café in a nearby town or something simple like that and you think, I haven't been there for ages, I wanna go... I GO! Cause its very real that if I wait even a week, it may not be there anymore... :(

That was one unforgettable night; from what I remember anyway.

I never went there because of the red light or the coffee shops but I can’t help wonder what makes them think anyone will care to visit Amsterdam if it doesn’t have that as a centerpiece to its shit show?

Amsterdam wants less tourist. The people living in the city center (who can pay for 900.000+ euro apartments) want to have rest. Therefor they already shut down a lot of airbnb. And the mayor is greenleft, the less tourist come by plane, the better. They even have plans to stop tourist buying weed at coffeeshops.

I remember the good crisis times, a good hotel for 75 euro. Or a good airbnb for 800 euro a week. You can triple that now, and less fun.

May i suggest to move the Webmaster Access to: Brazil, Pattaya or maybe Hamburg.

For the people that want to start a business. They are looking for people to invest in the erotic center. I would stay away, next step is to ban it completely.

Been there. Nothing special to be honest. I'm not a junkie, so I never visited coffeeshops in Red Light district. As about girls, striptease, booze, night clubs etc... no one city can beat Moscow.

Technically yes of course. But I'm talking about so-called mind-expanding substances. Vodka manipulates with your mood and turns you into a stupid animal, but it doesn't bring you hallucinations.

That's because Amsterdam became a hub for all kinds of scum and scam from around the World. If you were there, your local friends have told you many times the things like "don't give your camera to a stranger to make your picture", "watch your wallet all the time", "don't take sweets from unknown girls" etc. All these warnings sounds a bit unusual for a citizen of every other European city. I live in a biggest megalopolis in the Western World and you know... we have such a problem. I mean a systematic problem, not just some single incidents.

I don't want to insult my Dutch friends, but right now Amsterdam is an International cloaca exactly because of that district.

If I am right, it was actually the people living there who wanted it gone due to massive turism. There were lots of big groups of tourists visiting it every day just to see the girls behing the windows and the whole place was a mess. Still a shame though, it was the main attraction typical for the city.

BTW: regulation of turism is happening in many other European cities as well

That's similar to what they they did here to Sydney's RedLight district "Kings Cross"

Sleaze and drugs were kicked out, and the local million dollar apartment owners were the happiest they have been.

The sleaze and drugs just moved to another area of town and the locals houses went up another 500,000 so everyone was happy eventually.

The tourists.. well they stayed in Kings cross which now has great clubs, best restaurants all in a much more family friendly environment.

Amsterdam offers so much fucking more than the hookers and cafes.

2012, during the crisis when hotels even went bankrupt. A very short period. That was when you could buy a small `workers house´ in Amsterdam for around 185.000 euro, that now cost 350.000 euro. Last time, 2 years ago, the only available good hotel nearby was 300 euro a day.

Time to move the events! Once you have been in Pattaya you see that the Red Light District Amsterdam is highly overrated.

The government bought up some red light houses and turned them into houses for living. For sure when you create living areas in busy neighbourhoods, they start complaining. And for sure the start proceeding when they know the house price will go to the roof when winning. And it is also about sex trafficking. Since they legalized prostitution about 15 years ago 70% of the clubs in Holland is gone. In the red light disttict most are not Dutch girls. In other parts of Holland it is also disappearing, in Utrecht you had like 100 of houseboats with hookers, also gone years ago.

The fun with this mayor is that she want to build windmills in the middle of Amsterdam. Finally something i agree on. Instead of building them in the quiet parts where i live. They alway try to ruin that nature for the energy they need in Amsterdam. But now people start protesting against that. Green Nimby´s.

But in the end it is sad that the Red Light District Webmaster Access trips will be gone. Always popular hanging out in the red light districts bars.

Those million dollar apartments in the centrum will lose their value as less and less people come to Amsterdam to party. Sure it will be quieter for awhile and the people there will be happier - for awhile. But the Dutch love MONEY more than they love nature, peace, quiet or anything else.

Property values will go DOWN. Why? Tourism and demand. What is the point of paying a million euros for a flat in the centre of a dying city with no attractions or fun?

I live in Manhattan and have seen it here time and again. Gentrification cleans up a neighborhood, prices go UP...then they go DOWN because everyone cool has moved out and went to another neighborhood.

In addition to reducing the demand for soft drugs and drug tourism, the capital wants to make the cannabis market more transparent with a coffee shop label. This is to prevent the soft drug trade, which has grown significantly in recent years, from mixing with the violent hard drug environment.

Although the number of Amsterdam coffee shops has been reduced from 283 to 166 in the past twenty years, the demand for soft drugs has increased enormously. Some coffee shops saw a sales increase of 75 to 200 percent. The so-called cannabis tourists, who come to Amsterdam with cheap flights, have contributed significantly to this, according to Halsema. "We have seen that many groups of young people come to Amsterdam to visit a coffee shop."

Amsterdam, where almost 30 percent of all coffee shops in our country can be found, previously did not want the so-called resident criterion (i-criterion). Because of this ban for foreign tourists to coffee shops, the capital feared an increase in illegal street trade. However, the capital did reduce the number of coffee shops and they had to move away from schools.

Less tourists
According to Halsema, research now shows that a large number of foreign tourists indicate that they will no longer go to Amsterdam if they cannot enter a coffee shop. And although there is a chance of more trade in soft drugs on the street, this can also decrease due to the absence of tourists. “The resort of tourists has already led to an enormous increase in street trade, especially in fake dope, in recent years,” says Halsema. "If we want to do something about that, we should also have fewer potential customers."

With the plans, Halsema wants to gradually work towards national regulation of the so-called “back door” of coffee shops. For example, a quality mark for coffee shops, after Haarlem's example, should make the cannabis market less vulnerable to organized crime. For example, certified coffee shops are allowed to have a larger supply of cannabis in-house, so that couriers - who are often the target of robberies - do not have to replenish several times a day. The triangle with a maximum number of coffee shops per chain also wants to prevent undesirable monopoly positions from arising.

The triangle will later consider the precise implementation of the plans, such as enforcement and the timeframe. First, the municipal council, which according to Halsema has “traditionally” been very divided about coffee shop policy, has to find something about it. "But I don't really see an alternative solution."

That party GreenLeft lost 50% of their votes in national elections last month. We can only hope she will lose in Amsterdam even more (i doubt it).

Just do it in Bangkok with the Affilaite World Conference and afterparty's in Pattaya. A lot of the adult industry is at the Affiliate World Conference in Bangkok anyway :) But looks like that will take another year, Thailand still not allows travellers.

Drugs is also illegal, but have seen more coffeeshops in Thailand than in Amsterdam :) Even in Vietnam there are good coffeeshops now. And in Cambodia you have the Happy Pizza shops. Looks like everything got more liberal than Amsterdam.

Strange world we live in. I wonder if there are friends of politicians in Holland who own a lot of land near where the new Red Light District might be situated ...

The houses in the red light district cost much more than a piece of land near Amsterdam. And you can see how it works. The party is GREENleft, it will be a GREEN Light District. The government bought the houses for millions and renovated them. Who bought/ rent them with subsidy? And guess all the people that presents themselves as green, can held up their hand and get some free space to do green projects, green managers will fill pockets with green advice, green government employers have work. While the greenleft voters life in their renovated million dollar apartment being green. This means the made sure they have the next 10 years government money for free.

I wouldn't invest in a new red light district. You must know the laws very well cause you will find a lot of resistance, government that break deals and in 10 years it will be closed. Is just a move to keep people happy for now so they move to another location.

Sad to see one of the world's most liberal cities turning so conservative. :(

Amsterdam has come a long way, first time I went in 1989 I think and when I stepped out of the train there was a junkie sitting on the stairway from the platform putting a needle in his arm.

And I don't know if this is good or bad, I only know that in cities like Prague and Hamburg it turned into a clown show with idiots from all over the world coming to only get fucked up drunk and destroying stuff. And living in these cities has become extremely expensive because Airbnb takes thousands of flats off the market.

So personally I don't mind at all if the cities become more quiet and sustainable.

PS: I think only NY beats Amsterdam in regards to the highest prices for the most shitty hotels. Anything in the center of Amsterdam for less than 200 Euro a night is basically equivalent to sleeping in a garbage container

Prices of flats in Prague and Brno are quite similar and Brno is not tourist town.

I never really liked Amsterdam all that much. I found it to be just stupid expensive. Slice of pizza like 8 euros, and for what I paid for parking at show hotel once, I would expect to park on slab of solid marble, with girl waiting to give me blowjob as soon as i exit vehicle and 24/7 armed guards to be watching my car until I get back. Instead, I got to put car in a loading bay.

The heroin Junkies left the cities some years ago. In Rotterdam they even had a free methadon bus at the trainstation... They finaly realised that wasn't a good location. Less heroin addicts now like in the 80's where you saw them everywhere.

It has changed so much, even Barneys and Greenhouse are selling shit!
No good stuff can be found there. Nothing of that you should inhale, it´s really bad everywhere.
And you can read about it on Reddit and Coffeeshop forums since years.
It was time to shut few of them down.

In the redlight area I had plenty fun, but like many other rip-off experiences xD
To be honest, in comparison with German redlight areas, I would rate Amsterdam 2/5 and Germany 5/5.
Also because in Germany a visit to such an area is not needed, on the web are so many profile listings for hundreds of woman in every city. You just go to the address, ring the bell and you are in a clean place with good service and normal prices.

If you want to rent a room in Amsterdam besides AirBnb you go to Kamernet.nl
There you can find rooms for $450-700 a month. Not guaranteed it works out if you are abroad, but actually not an issue if you can afford $600 or 700 per month.

There are also hotelrooms for sailors you can get for € 50-80 per day. You simply can get those, cheap and super clean!

Things have changed a lot in Manhattan. Now you can find a decent hotel for around $85 euros a night. Maybe prices will go back up when things open up but there are plenty of decent mid-priced hotels now.

The weed is terrible in the coffeeshops. I had to stop going to them. I tried dozens of them and found a nice gram here and there but basically light weight shit all around. You need a good Dutch connection to get really high in Amsterdam now.

I am not saying you won't find a decent priced flat in Prague but only 30 seconds on Sreality in Prague and Brno with the same parameters shows me you're wrong.

But the situation in Brno sucks, that is true, but that's due to businesses and universities, not tourists.

Nice, the red light area was not healthy in so many ways, this initiative is a clean-up for things you see on the eye, and for the things that remain out of the eye.

Best in the red light district are the old traditional bars. Watching people, watching a few windows, drinking a Heineken with friends, spot the blue light, smoke a joint outside, play some pool with some tourist in a coffeeshop and have a pee.
