Car Stereos

Bought our kid a new car a few months ago (well "new to us") and it's got the touch screen with Appleplay, very nice. I have an older Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I put an after market Sony touch screen with navigation. The navigation is so out dated that it's worthless.

At this point... I have Alexa Echo in my car and just screen music from my cell phone via bluetooth. The screen screen is pretty much worthless; Everything is voice activated. I never ever use the screen at this point.

I see the newer cars are all coming with a lot of screens. Some of the luxary SUVs have screens pretty much from door to door.

Which way is this going to go.... Lots of touch screens or all voice activated? Like I said, I don't use my screen at all. Even for navigation I use Google maps and don't need to look at a map on a screen.

Thoughts?

I also have a Sony screen with Android Auto. It's basically just Spotify and Waze. I'm still getting used to the voice control stuff, I dislike voice generally and don't want to talk to my stupid car.

I hate how new cars are moving more features to the touch screen, even climate control and seat heaters and shit like that. Give me real tactile buttons any day.

Yeah, I find I can hop into most cars (Honda, Toyota etc) and reach for the climate control knobs without even looking since they are all so similar. As for voice vs touch, I think just like smart phones future devices will have both. I just hope they keep real buttons and knobs too. :2 cents:

I have a 2020 Chrysler with screen and tactile. You can take your eyes off the road and look at screen or use fingers to feel physical buttons. One makes more sense than another.

Isn't it faster and easier to press a button than argue with a voice machine?

I haTe the voice control in my car. Never works properly and I have to repeat myself 3 or 4 times.

Noticed, that I usually waste 3-4 seconds to press any sensor button on new cars with touchpads while doing it much faster on older cars with physical buttons and without looking on them. It really makes sense when driving in the city :(

Buttons are faster. However, I have buttons on the back of my steering wheel for "next song" (or next station on radio) and also volume.
