a trial site is the best. low price, no rebill, show a good sampling. you got their email and they know who you are. its a modern world out there now. millennials cry if the sale is too pushy.

Tried it for a bit and had very, very low conversions and since we pay revshare, we'd be losing money (or breaking even at best) so we axed it. I'm not 100% against them. I'm sure some paysites--many going by how many I see offer them--find a way to make it work.

Yeah, I see my joins for one month then a rebill canceling after the low price first month. They are getting wise to it all.

I never offered trials more than just as a test. I do not like de-valuing my content. Perception is everything. If surfers see a higher price they assume the content is worth that; see a $1 trial and they think 'cheap' and the smart ones will cancel right away while downloading all your shit for a buck. No thanks.
The biz model works when you have cross-sells and lots of traffic to pump through. The basic idea is that the new member will forget to cancel. But then the chargebacks go up, up and up... So it really depends on your traffic sources, the amount of traffic you get daily, what your affiliate costs are (many do not pay on trials, only the rebills) and so on. Bottom line: if it makes you more money then keep trials. Otherwise, ditch them. |
