Almost 8 years more than the prosecutor asked for.

SAN DIEGO — An adult-film actor tied to a San Diego company that authorities said duped and coerced women into making pornography was sentenced in federal court Monday to 20 years in prison.

In December, Ruben Andre Garcia, 31, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit sex trafficking by force, coercion and fraud, and admitted his role as a recruiter and performer with GirlsDoPorn .com and GirlsDoToys.com from 2013 to 2017. Authorities said the company lured young women who had never appeared in adult films.

U.S. District Judge Janis Sammartino said Garcia was “without question” one of the leaders behind a scheme she described as “malicious” and “callous.” The victims, she said, were treated as “disposable commodities.”

The sentence is several years longer than the 12 years and seven months in prison that prosecutors suggested. Garcia’s attorneys had sought a seven-year prison term.

Defense lawyer Jan Ronis said his client apologized in court, saying he “doesn’t know how he lost his moral compass.” The attorney also said the case was the “long shadow of the #MeToo movement.”

“This is a reawakening in America that, in the past, these cases were not taken too seriously,” Ronis said after the sentencing. “The judge’s sentence — which I don’t agree with — reflects that that day is gone.”

As part of his plea, Garcia admitted to threatening and deceiving the women, and paying other women to lie to reluctant recruits, falsely asserting that the footage would not be seen in the U.S. but was intended for private DVD collections overseas.

But the plan was to post the videos online, prosecutors said. And once the images hit the internet, many of the women were threatened, harassed and faced other repercussions.

In a sentencing filing, prosecutors argued that, even after Garcia knew the victims’ lives had been upended by the “malicious scheme,” Garcia “simply moved on to the next victim without any regard for the well-being of anyone but himself.”

Several people linked to GirlsDoPorn were named in a federal indictment handed up in 2019, including the company’s co-owners, Matthew Isaac Wolfe and Michael James Pratt.

Exactly. It always amazed me that guys who were into young girls or coeds or whatever couldn't just hire 21 year olds. But it's probably crossing that line that excites their sick minds.

In this case I think GDP got success with a few relatively willing girls then realized they had a tiger by the tail. So they needed to keep the factory pumping, so to speak, with fresh girls by any means necessary. Thing is, despite what many may think, in America there aren't thousands of eager sluts willing to get throat fucked on camera.

Also, not knocking experience but this is one of those cases you might want to get someone who understands tech. They should've have followed in the steps of Manwin and at least procured a firm who may knows a thing or two about the interwebs.

A producer on here posted a while back (I think it was Amacontent Joe?) that it was fairly obvious from the quality of the talent on GDP that they were doing something to aggressively recruit models, and had to be lying to them about the nature of the production or publishing, since no one else familiar with the performer landscape in america were able to find such a big supply of hot college girls who have never done porn.

Interesting read! I agree with you. Especially about these being very different times. Remember, if you are filming under 30's (and maybe even under 40's) they are millenials. Just saying you have to consider that fact.

For me, when it comes to filming I only use professionals booked through agencies. I willingly pay the fee to the agent. I also only use the biggest agencies, not some creepy dude who calls himself a "recruiter".

Also: film everything from multiple angles from the second the actress appears until the second she leaves, perhaps even longer (to show how you store and protect the just shot footage). You can monetize this as BTS. But tell the performer before they show up exactly what you want to do, how you want to do it, etc. Then go over it all again, exactly, on camera with them before any actual sexual content is filmed. Any doubts at all, any hesitancy on the girl's part, cancel the shoot. Pay the kill fee, thank her, watch her leave (all on camera) and write it off.
