Apple Help Needed!..

So, my flatmates partner got her a MacBook Pro - She can't even use a fucking mouse and I have no idea how to use a Mac - She wants me to teach her how to use the damn thing...

I remember hearing that you can set them up as dual boot with Windows - Did I imagine it or is it a thing?....

The computer is a work of art - I love it - I just can't fucking use it efficiently and certainly can't teach someone else...

:helpme

Back a long time ago, I was working for Apple when they switched from Motorola to Intel, and Bootcamp came out. We didn't support it yet, but it worked well and I think it still does.
There was also something called Parallels and I think that's still around, too, but it wasn't free. You could run Windows in a virtual window on the Mac OS.
(You could dual boot before bootcamp came out, though, but then you had to do things like use exactly the right hardware)

support.apple.com is good for most things, and if you're using OSX 10.4, I might have written the article.... lol

Or click HERE to sign up for a virtual thing on Wednesday to learn how to use Macs. :upsidedow

I am such a Windows cultist - I can do most things using muscle memory only - I can do anything on the Mac as well but it isn't natural and I can't teach someone like that...

Sell it and buy a Compaq. Great for beginners!

You are overtthinking things. There's no reason to load up Windows, she will be fine on the Mac and so will you with half of an honest effort. They are pretty easy to use once you start tinkering around. Don't let your Windows experience cloud your judgment.

What kind of things is she looking to do?

Hi Eddy. You can do this in 2 ways. You can run Windows with Bootcamp, or you can use Parallels. Parallels is better.

If you use Bootcamp, your Machine will boot into either Windows OR OS/X. But if you use Parallels, you can run Windows as a virtual machine inside OSX, effectively having both running at the same time.

If your Macbook Pro is the new M1 Chip, then you are definately better running with Parallels + Windows 10 for ARM. It is fucking fast, works perfectly, and gives you the most flexibility.

Enjoy!

How can a woman that doesn't know how to use a mouse benefit from this?

Pump the brakes and keep things simple guys.

Yeah, if it's someone who's new to computers, just stick with the Mac OS. It's simple to use and at least for the regular user, there is nothing that you can do on a PC that you can't do on a Mac, except maybe things like not as many games are compatible.

So Dont.. stick her on youtube, with whatever model/ios no she's using and let someone else do it.

if She doesn't know how to use a mouse, your friend may well be retarded... ( or she's used to touch screen and skip the mouse, go track pad )

Bright side, She'll never know the help you're giving her is sub par :1orglaugh

tip: at least map CMD to CTRL so you have a fighting chance at success.

I switched to mac 15 years ago, but instantly mapped my keys to windows and never looked back.

WTF!

I got a free Mac a few years ago from a client and I just turned it on and started using it.
I don't understand this thread at all.

Here you go.... https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/surface

2MuchMark 06-23-2021 11:07 AM

I've used both and honestly, Apple's OS/X is alot easier to use and faster than Windows.
