formulating a hoax
 

some of you may know there's a super fast growing "friends" site- you join and give them the email addresses of your friends- it literally builds networks from those friends- so you can see who your friends know. it's a neat concept, just in the beta stages and pretty succesful. (the site is certified as spam free.)

if you know about the site, it'd probably be for the best if you didn't blurt out the name of it. i know there's a fair bit of incontinence here, but bear the burden if you can.

anyway, since this whole thing is modeled on real life, and people write testmonials on each other, i was thinking it would be rather interesting to create a whole friends network of fake egos; make up plausible but utterly ridiculous stories about each other in the testimonials.

and where better to find the people with a talent for this than here?

I believe the site is different from all of the above. It's two way acknowledgement only, profiles are publicized only within your network, the chain of acquaintance is explicit, the pre-existing networks are real. It's purposeful. There are other distinctions. I'm not really interested in convincing people who say "same old shit under the sun" and "convince me or shut up". People who do this... ah nevermind. It's just annoying.

Forget it.

I'm going to setup an email account and just use it to join and see how much spam I get.
