I noticed about developers
They charge you cheap and get job done fast first couple projects
then as time goes by, it gets more expensive for the smallest changes and takes longer. Is it just me? |
They may have been desperate for cash the first job.

Do you hire another coder or security expert to go over code? |
That is how bussiness model it is - you get cheap base, you pay more money for upgrades.
|
If they're doing it cheap for you they're doing it cheap for others, there then comes a time where you probably find yourself with maybe too much work so raise prices and work through the backlog.
|
How do you know it's a smallest changes if you don't know code?
Changing one line of code doesn't mean it's small. |

Most of them suck and will steal your money and give you nothing in return. When you find an amazing one, put them on salary and don't let them go. |

1. After working for you, their bills didn't get paid. So either tell you bye, or charge you more. 2. They quoted their bottom price and you haggled it down further. 3. You changed the payment agreement in some way(amount/day/rate/method/taxes etc..) 4. They gave you lower priority because you did number 1, 2 or 3, or combination from above. 5. Times have changed, coding is more complex. (Responsive design is now required for example) 6. Inflation 7. Fuck you, you think we gonna work forever without a raise. :1orglaugh :2 cents: |

As far as pricing goes, I charge by the hour, not by the estimate. I do not raise my prices very often, in fact I have clients that I am charging the same hourly rate that I was charging 10 years ago. I like to reward loyalty. How quickly a project/task gets completed depends on several things. First my work load. If I have nothing else on my plate at the moment and it is a simple task I might get it done over lunch. If I have a full plate then I base when it gets done on the priority of the project/task. Emergencies always go first. Then it goes to planned projects where I have given the client a date. Then it goes to adhoc issues and tasks. I also do get to take time off, regardless of my client's viewpoint that I am spending too much time on gfy or I shouldn't take that trip right now. I am not an employee. I run my own shop and I set the rules and priorities and run my business as I see fit. . |

No one will ever say that I don't pay - and pay well (usually more than is asked for), on time, and often BEFORE money is due =) You are not a flakey programmer in my opinion. A little crabby but definitely not flakey. |

You get back and say, "Is it done?" and I reply "I'm still waiting on an answer to my last email." Sounds like a plan to me ;p . |

i get on skype when someone needs to live chat - which is rare in adult. its popular in the mainstream world because no one wants a 'paper' trail and a lot of people out in mainstream are scamming. i want everything written down in email. my contact form - which is right next to my skype id - works fine but was ignored. how can i work with someone like that? :1orglaugh # |
Quote:

I'd probably pick the quicker communication as well if given the option. At least what you THINK would be quicker. I prefer phones and unfortunately, a lot of people working over the net ie programmers, designers etc usually don't. |

By all rights, they should then send that back to the client to get confirmation as to what all was agreed upon. And this goes back and forth like that until both are in agreement. If the client can take the time to write an email explaining what they want that saves some time on the front end. Plus, doing calls with you lead to something other than a well defined project. There may be some satisfaction but there is no project definition in the end ;p . |
Quote:
A phone call is 100% the worst way to discuss a project with a developer. |
Quote:
Over a half year ago. Asking if heīs available and explained a little bit. Just as initial contact. I found someone else a while later.... And of course, a real task list with all info I always send via mail, so the developer has a real overview of every detail what needs to be done. :upsidedow |
Well, in plsureking defense, skype do have tendency to be unreliable and not passing messages, which is one of more reason why skype sucks . And another thing, even if other party do receive message, he can be simply overwhelmed and skype does not really solve good when you are bombarded with messages.
