Maybe, kinda, sorta....

I buy ads, and I also hate seeing ads, at least, I hate seeing too many ads, or ads that are used in ways I would consider annoying as hell.

Some sites have giant ads that take up 33% of the screen. Others have literaly dozens of small ads all over the place, interspersed with content.

I completely get that sites rely on advertising for revenue, but they either don't know what they are doing, or are too greedy, or both.

As a surfer, I never click those ads. And if there are too many ads getting in the way of the content I am trying to consume, I may just end up leaving the site.

Honestly,
I’ve maybe bought ads once or twice in 20 years.

I will almost always turn off ad blocker if the content interests me even in the slightest.

Behind the overlay...

The pop up (Overlay) that prevents you from seeing the site and requests you disable your adblocker is thwarted with a single click... Next!!!

It does annoy me though when its a news story, thats been syndicated in the first place. Just read it at another site if you want. Its not like the site that wants to show you the ads created the content itself.

This is not how porn works. people disable their adblockers for porn.
Edit: if needed.

It's not that surfers don't have the attention span for ads, it's that most websites have more ads than content, and that shit is annoying.

Well, it is kind a relative - majority of porn sites still uses "old school" ads, which means banners paired with pops. As a surfer, i dont have problem with pops as long they dont execute something malicious,
The irony is , how google decided how pops is bad, yet they are pushing in-video ad format which i find far more invasive then pop format - unlike pop , which once you close it does not come back for next 24 hours or unless you delete cookie, in-video show on every played video, commonly not allowing you to close it before certain time has passed, and sometime showing two ads before actual video is playing.
