Fuck. Bummed just from looking at car prices and insurance.

Looks like I might be catching cabs for the rest of my life.
It's cheaper that a new car and insurance.

"Affordable" used cars have 120k miles already and still cost $10k.

Everybody else here is probably thinking "No shit SherlockMonsters".

I hadn't even consider a new car for 20 years so I had no clue.

If I can lose 100LBS then I'll get a moped.

If you want a moped, look at the honda ruckus. Those are pretty tight. Unless you weigh like 400lbs, you can probably get a decent moped.

Just go to some dealerships and make some unrealistically low offers without expecting them to go for it, sometimes you'll get lucky. I got a Mercedes once for $6700, nothing wrong and extra clean, because I said I'd give $6500 cash from either 11 or 12k, and they just raised it $200..

Also check bigger dealerships that mostly lease new cars, then ask if they have any cash deals.

CurrentlySober 08-04-2021 01:44 PM

Just steal one like they do in GTA V... Break window, or pull occupant out, drive around and if the police come, just have a gunfight... Much more fun... :2 cents:

Plus you get to drive loads of different cars that way. Much better than being stuck with just the one...

We pay $600 a month to lease 2 brand new 2021 Jeep Cherokees with 15k miles per year, that's including the insurance payment.

I thought I got such a steal on the first one, I went back and got a second.

OneHungLo 08-04-2021 06:30 PM

They say the used car market is super hot.

I went to look at new Corvettes and the dealership was empty. They had some used cars but no trucks. And then they offered to buy my car.

It's much worse in Europe. New cars here cost 2x what they do in the US

Maybe not but don't forget to take into account the cost of maintenance...

Dealers are still putting heavy markup on C8s... People are still getting their allocations delivered and the z06 hasn't even started shipping yet. If you want one you're better off flying to a less competitive market.

blackmonsters 08-05-2021 08:20 AM

What happened to the Cyber Truck.

All the hype about low price; but is it ever going to happen?

My friend was one of the first to get the 2021 in our area. He had it 6 months and the dealership called him up and offered him 5k more than he paid for it brand new, that's how crazy the market is.

You picked the absolute worst time to look at used car pricing as the markup right now is as high as its ever been and sellers have all the power. With the big chip shortage on new car production, there is hardly any new car inventory being produced during the last year. With the new car shortage, people turned to the used car market. Supply is way down, demand up, which has caused prices to skyrocket and given sellers all the leverage.

I wouldn't get down, as soon as the chip production issue gets worked out, there's going to be a flood of new car inventory which should help build back up the used car inventory and effectively cause pricing to drop. Unfortunately I still think we're about a year away from that happening.

Story of my life. :1orglaugh

I can get by with a clunker because I don't drive much anyway.
A long drive for me is 10 miles. Not kidding.
But 10K for a mid range clunker with 150k miles makes me feel stupid to buy.
Waiting for things to get better makes sense; but when is that?
Next year or 3 years or never.

It's funny how at the start of 2020 they were trying to push cars out for cheap and now the prices are 30%+.

Last April I bought a new Mercedes for $4k off ask, and below 2% APR. I've put 10k miles on it and it's the price of a new one still.

Welcome to the 2012 Inflation Olympics.

If you think it's going to get better anytime soon, you are sadly mistaken.

that's the big question. the US economy hasn't finished crashing yet (housing will drop into a black hole by next summer), and most global economies might not recover for a decade. the backlog at the Port of LA is months long. it will get a lot worse, regardless of how much free money they throw at it. they can't protect us against inflation.

we're looking forward to buying everything cheap when everyone starts bankrupting..

No you can't, unless its got 150k miles min. You can't get any deals in AZ right now on used cars, the supply is at an all time low and demand is high with the new care shortage, so dealers aren't negotiating and have marked everything way up.

One thing that made haggling a bit harder around here is that they made those car title loan places illegal. When they were around, people's cars would be repo'd all the time, with much less owed than the car value, so used car shops would go down to the giant lot once a week to re-up very cheap with no shortages. That made getting decent cars easy for a very low price because they'll just go out and get another. Especially the buy here pay here places, they make their money back on the first payment usually. Not anymore, though.
