Running out of water?

How long til your city or state starts water restrictions?

Dumb question maybe. But why don't I ever hear of desalination plants off the coast of Cali?

I think ours is good :1orglaugh

Because it isn't free, like other water.

Water shortages

NatalieK 08-08-2021 12:06 PM

Britain always seems to have water shortage in summer, the country canīt cope with summer or winter, anything but a dull cloudy day seems to put the UK out, even too much rain, when itīs know for the rain

I've always wondered this myself.

California is on the Pacific coast. It wouldn't take too much effort to build some large desalination, and then make a canal inland to the California aqueduct. Pump it directly into Lake Oroville and then through the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

It would be expensive as fuck but it's going to have to be done.

honestly this is a huge issue

where I live there are a ton of fresh water sources from rivers but still a concerted effort re desalinization of sea water

it's kinda crazy to me, I don't even have kids but it seems a lot of the time I care about the young'uns more than their parents in terms of what they're going through

delayed primary growth thanks to all this Covid ish, can't drink tap water in many nations (ahem TCI, tap water there is orange and smells like burnt hair and roughs up your throat) let alone breathe clean air. that is a rare and precious resource

not even getting started on their employment opps

thought the whole point was to make life a bit less ruthless with every generation. to pass down a world that is hospitable to them

we are failing kids, hard

Well, also it's because water made with reverse osmosis isn't good for long term use and can be bad for your health. (At least according to WHO)

It's rust, but usually it's good for you even though it smells weird and looks orangish. :upsidedow

Reverse osmosis is really bad for drinking it seems.

Maybe minerals can be added back into the water after desalination.

Makes sense to me.
Super filtered water can be dangerous, but hard to do lol. Someone at a lab one time left a wrench in a pool where the water usually is, then when they filled it back up, the water that they constantly filter dissolved the entire wrench and is just an outline of it now.

yay for you and Gary and in JA the same. clean and fresh. would never occur to me to buy water here

the water in TCI though, if you drank it would burn your throat and make you puke. no exaggeration, just what it was. lack of access to clean drinking water is unfortunately very common in much of the world

not directed towards you whatsoever but what the fuck are we handing down to the next generation? have we decided we're ok with this?

Biggie Smalls Web Writing 08-16-2021 10:49 PM

Here in Central Europe we are already facing water restrictions, mostly late night.
