Namecheap WTF?

Namecheap suspended all my domains for a Copyright Complaint.

1. I owned the domain 5 years ago, i let it expired.
2. Someone picked it up and registered it, made a site out of it.
3. NC emailed me a copyright complaint.
4. I responded that i don't own the domain in question anymore.
4. Namecheap suspended all my domains and some sites hosted to it.
5. Like, WTF?

Ollay 10-16-2021 03:44 AM

That's ridiculous, hope you can get it sorted out asap.

Weird how this can happen to you, yet they let sites like socialmediagirls which is huge and purely copyrighted content go on perfectly fine for years... I can name plenty of others too

adultchatpay 10-16-2021 03:48 AM

Yeah, the site in question is still live.
However, all my sites, domains and hosting which is not even associated are suspended.
This is ridiculous.

trevesty 10-16-2021 04:01 AM

Their support is pretty responsive.

TaiGhost 10-16-2021 04:28 AM

Their chat is best chance.

blackmonsters 10-16-2021 05:32 AM

Now tell us the entire story.

Klen 10-16-2021 07:23 AM

There was such cases with NC before, one of the reasons why i moved out there. No point to risk losing traffic/domain because they are not doing their job properly.

Major (Tom) 10-16-2021 07:53 AM

Thats crazy!

Agreed..

I have mailed them at least 1000 times with DMCA for pirate sites and they say its not their problem.

Namecheap is a joke. We just put a clients' site on their shared hosting (simple 'business card' page, flat html) and it was taking like 2 minutes to load. I couldn't even run pagespeed on it because it was timing out. Support checked it out - says everything is fine and sends me a link to a gtmetrix result with it taking 60 seconds to load a 500kbyte header image.

sandman! 10-16-2021 08:14 AM

Sucks , I would try their live chat I hear it’s decent.

ZTT 10-16-2021 09:02 AM

The fact that everyone is so familiar with their support (it's the best thing about them) illustrates how incompetent they are. I barely know the support elsewhere.

I would never use a domain registrar for hosting and vice versa.

Paul&John 10-16-2021 11:55 AM

Good to know, I still have a few domains at NC because I thought they are more reliable then namesilo. ..

grzepa 10-16-2021 01:42 PM

Suspended means you lost the domain or you can transfer it out to other registrar ? What if one domain on your account was sex.com for example, that's ridiculous.
that's scary, what are the alternatives to NC ?

Publisher Bucks 10-16-2021 03:27 PM

The only thing good about NameCheap is that you can bulk search upwards of 5000 domain names at one time, check they are available there, then register them at a cheaper, more reliable registrar such as NameSilo.

I fully agree with that post. NameSilo is way better and definitely more reliable.

They have coupons that knock 3$ off .coms also renewals.

ZTT 10-16-2021 10:23 PM

Unfortunately their prices are $6 more than anywhere else. They're about as aptly named as the Ministry of Truth or Department of Defense.

Where did you move? Namesilo?

baodb 10-17-2021 05:51 AM

Best option for price and usability is definitely porkbun

ZTT 10-17-2021 07:28 AM

I wouldn't say Porkbun's prices are particularly good (though not bad), and they charge 10% more for crypto payments, but they seem pretty professional and their UI is good, all info easy to find and change unlike the mess at most registrars.

InfoGuy 10-17-2021 08:50 AM

Not that it's a reason for Namecheap to suspend other domains in your account, but did Namecheap allege that the infringing domain had an active site with copyright infringing content or contained a trademarked term in the domain name itself?

And as other have said, don't host domains with your registrar and vice versa.

dcortez 10-17-2021 10:56 AM

It's not a bad idea to keep your domain hosting separate from your domain registrar.

I have had lots of trouble (since 1996) whenever domain registrars get consolidated and become "boutiques", with hosting options.

Try to choose a registrar that is mostly a registrar with a long standing good record.

I have been using ENOM without any issues for many years.

ps. In my opinion stay clear of any enterprise that is owned by EIG - from my experience, when they acquire a formerly well run reliable company, they chop shop it into the ground.

sandman! 10-17-2021 11:28 AM

I moved all my domains to fab years ago never had issues even when I had some trademark issues they did not suspended my account.

AmeliaG 10-17-2021 01:58 PM

That is bananas. I hope you get it sorted.

I agree, i love Porkbun! Moved all my domains to them

cambeauties 10-17-2021 04:01 PM

I don't think you are telling us the whole story here. namecheap can not suspend your domain because of a dmca claim. They can suspend your hosting but not your domain. to get your domain suspended you must be doing a lot of messed up shit with the domain in question.

Why 10-18-2021 12:11 PM

Namecheap gets shadier and shadier all the time. im in the process of moving all of my domains away from them.

porkbun is getting most of the business.

Dolor 10-18-2021 01:37 PM

I hope you get the problem solved quickly....

LeRoy 10-18-2021 05:02 PM

Anyone here from Namecheap that can help you out? I'd be on the phone with someone stat!

adultchatpay 10-20-2021 06:47 PM

Everything was sorted out, hosting and sites got back online. (after 24+- hrs)

I have the domain still listed in my "add-on" domain and forgot to remove it and never did so to my other expired/dropped domains, so they think i still own it and for that they suspended everything under my NC account.
