Odd issue with laptop

For some reason, when i start lenovo laptop where i have linux mint installed , it report some error "usbhdid" , shows a lot of //////////////////////, then there is animated underline which keep going and then it nothing happens. After dozen of restarts, somehow i managed to get into OS, so now i keep it online all the time in order to get things going. And same thing happens if i try to load mint live cd. Any idea what could be problem? Maybe broken usb port?
I still have warranty so i can send it to repair , but the problem is i dont have backup PC/laptop at the moment except one HP laptop which is not suitable for work and who knows how much time it will take to come back.

no idea, but seems like linux mint has had a great deal of USB problems over the past two years.. maybe same issue?

It could be hardware, but usbhid (not usbhdid) is a Linux module. Searching that should bring results up that may match whatever the specific error is.

You can ask about backup laptop option from service / warranty provider, sometimes they have such option...
If you still have warranty - it is better to use it. As I know - if you will start repairing latop yourself, then warranty will be over.

looks like it could be BIOS settings or CMOS battery. this video, or one of his others, might have the answer..

I've never seen that. I just bought a System76 laptop used for $200 to play around with. It's got Pop!OS on it (which is pretty much Ubuntu)

without the videocard working properly, the system won´t boot but the first second of graphic displaying could be knocking the card out...

if you´ve a laptop with no separate card, you need to get a new masterboard...

laptops don't have video cards.

this issue displays an error code - keyword being 'display' - which is likely produced by the bios problem explained in the video i posted above. i listened to it and it sounds like a common problem with this brand.

but yes, if video no worky, you have a problem..

originally I had said graphics card...

our graphics card went and it stopped the whole thing running a display error and ended up replacing the whole mother board, now we have a better laptop with an integrated graphics and separate GeForce graphics...

always recommending having both, due to the overheating that happened on our other.

but yes, reading problem, probably not this... anyway :thumbsup

Laptop is still working, survived 14 hour trip on stand by and still working fine. But i do not dare to restart/shut down it.

Anyway, do you have a recommendation for brand which will work fine for long time? My previous laptop was acer which i bought in year 2011, and it was working till recently where something went bananas with graphic output which i think it would still work if i didnt tampered too much with hdmi output, so had to buy quickly new laptop.

Found this, https://www.datart.cz/omen-15-ek0000...-0-shadow.html , any good?

my fav brand of pc laptop is probably ASUS. they last forever and have few problems. HP have a lot of driver issues in my experience.

What do you need it for you can go to Walmart right now and get a decent chromebook for 200$ and put linux on it. They have a credit card deal right now if you spend 500$ in 3 months they give you 200$ back.

I having same experience with one cheap HP laptop which i dont use it anymore, for some reason USB port was not working in windows 7 no matter what, and in linux WIFI does not work without special driver.

ya they are an IT nightmare for sure lol

i have an 8-year old i5 ASUS that still works great. i had to buy a new battery last year but it will run another 5-10 years.

the only problem i had was the case is metal. when i am in Thailand, i get shocked using it with ungrounded plugs. so, plastic cases are better.

the M1 MacBook Air is really nice too and under a grand USD, if you swing that way. i got my wife one of those and a new Pro. she uses the Air more. iOS is Unix-based too.
