(Ironically?) I cannot find the SNL 'Weekend Update' clip on YouTube. All I could find was this SNL clip with Chris Rock and Dennis Miller about "Racial Discrimination" from 1990 (coincidence, irony?).

For the record, Chris Rock is in my top 3 favorite comedians of all time, Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr are the other two.

Dave Chappelle got it wrong when implied in his 2004 special "For What It's Worth" a 15 year old black boy in Florida was convicted of first-degree murder for "accidentally" killing his neighbor while "practicing wrestling moves" as an adult because of his race:

These injuries were characterized by the prosecution as "similar to those she would have sustained by falling from a three-story building."[5] In sentencing Tate to life imprisonment, Judge Joel T. Lazarus of Broward County Circuit Court said that "The acts of Lionel Tate were not the playful acts of a child [...] The acts of Lionel Tate were cold, callous and indescribably cruel."[6]"

In January 2004, a state appeals court overturned his conviction on the basis that his mental competency had not been evaluated before trial. This opened the way for Tate to accept the same plea deal he originally turned down, and he was released on one year's house arrest and 10 years' probation.[14]

On May 23, 2005, Tate was charged with armed burglary with battery, armed robbery, and violation of probation, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said.[16]

Tate threatened Domino's Pizza deliveryman Walter Ernest Gallardo with a handgun outside a friend's apartment after phoning in an order. Gallardo dropped the four pizzas and fled the scene. Tate then re-entered the apartment, assaulting the occupant who did not want Tate inside.[13]

Gallardo called 911 upon reaching the Domino's store and returned to identify Tate, the sheriff's office said in a statement, but no gun was recovered.[13]

On March 1, 2006, Tate accepted a plea bargain and was to be sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment in a sentencing hearing in April 2006. Tate admitted that he had violated probation by possessing a gun during the May 23 violent robbery, but he has refused to answer questions about where he got and later disposed of the gun. He was allowed to withdraw his guilty plea for robbery but was finally sentenced to 30 years in prison on May 18, 2006 for violating probation. On October 24, 2007, Florida's 4th District Court of Appeal upheld that sentence.[17]

On February 19, 2008, Tate pled no contest to the robbery and was sentenced to 10 years in state prison. The sentence will run concurrently with his 30-year sentence for violating his probation.[18] Tate is currently imprisoned in the Charlotte Correctional Institution.[19]

I can't believe Chris Rock didn't base his comedy routines on the world 30 years in the future. This is unacceptable.

I read that the city of Philadelphia has a statue of Rocky Bilbao, a fictional boxer, but no statue to Joe Frazier, all time great heavyweight boxer from Philadelphia, and the real boxer who (along with Rocky Marciano) Stallone based his character on.

As to the OP's point - big athletic black dudes go straight into the NFL these days. Larry Holmes has said that him, Foreman, Ali, Norton, Frazier would all be in the NFL today.

The ones that do like to fight choose the UFC now. Derek Lewis was discovered by Geroge Foreman at his local gym but decided to go into MMA, despite boxing being much more favorable to his skill set. The current UFC heavyweight champion - Francis Nganu - has Deontay Wilder punching power, and started off as a boxer, but chose MMA/UFC.

Boxing is still wildly popular in the UK, and parts of Eastern Europe such as Poland and the Ukraine.

The statue of Rocky is probably more about the steps that were immortalized in the film, and mostly a tourist attraction, rather than Rocky as a hero of the city. Frazier also has at least one statue, though this one was relatively recent:

I do think that it's a bit unfair to Frazier. Definitely a hero of his generation. In a build up to recent UFC fight between Usman and Covington the promo campaign was "Every Ali needs his Frazier".

Burr is my spirit animal. I feel like we share a brain. I've seen him twice live. New Orleans in 2015 and at Royal Albert Hall in London 2018.

Dennis Miller is a well known conservative, I worked on his show, back in the day, I didn't enjoy it much.
