I'm an idiot

Alexa ranking sure took a hit 2 weeks ago. Whatever, I was not so mad about it. It fluctuates from time to time. Then, about 3 days ago, it tanked even lower. Come to find out my most visited page, watch.php, the meta keywords were all jacked up and being displayed totally incorrectly. Went from 670K to 880K in 2 weeks. oops...

Anyway, how important are keywords in terms of your website's page ranking and all the other stats associated with a website?

I already know enough about the meta tags to have a good understanding of their use, but decided to do some further research on this topic. Apparently, some sites actually do not even use keywords at all, other people seem to think they are one of the most important aspects to consider in regard to SEO.

Just trying to figure out if the ranking dip was indeed associated with my stupid fuck up. I know there are other things to keep in mind, mainly traffic.

What's even scarier is that I was modifying my watch.php file for another reason other than my meta keywords and just happened to see they were all out of whack. Meaning, this could have went unnoticed for months or even years..... but would it have even mattered?

What's your thoughts?

You are not alone :)

I haven't used meta keywords for years, google themselves have said that they ignore meta keywords. Some other search engines might still do but it's really not necessary.

Decent headings and well-written text is enough for modern algo's to know what the subject of a page is.

And Alexa is useless

what could you possible write under a porn video?
I read a lot about that. A page needs at least 250 words in it to be well ranked.
Do I need to make commentaries about video?:1orglaugh

I try not to look at it that often for this simple fact.

Alexa is useless! Comparing to Google Analytics their data is total shit.

Similarweb on the other hand.

Don't get upset and keep doing what you're doing

You're not an idiot, and I agree with guys above, it happens. Google Analytics are shit lately, reason: don't have a clue. It happened to me as well, still trying to figure out what the hell went wrong, so you're not alone. :(

If you want a decent Alexa rank, just certify it for $20 a month. The ranks of my sites went from around 500k to 50k by doing so.

Also meta tags make no difference, looking at your sites Google results i can see that every video has no meta description so it's just pulling the text from your nav bar.

If you don't want to make your own descriptions, you could try adding a generic description with the title and tags included to mix it up a bit. Not great but better than nothing i suppose.

Why? Well, that's an idea for the new (old) project :2 cents: :thumbsup
