Drones

Anyone here have a drone? What's a good drone to get? And are you getting any work with it?

ion77 02-09-2022 12:31 PM

I see people flying them all around I would look for a small starter drone on Amazon for the best bang for the buck!

I have the Mavic Mini. Now they have the Mini 2. Good drone for cruising with camera that is easy to get started. Not looking for work with it.

I'll look into that thanks

There are different kinds of drone people. If you are into just getting nice and easy clean shots, DJI/Mavic is the way to go. Just take off, cruise, and take video.

Then you got your FPV guys, These are more difficult to fly.
"only fly acro mode!!! Angle Mode is for noobs!!"

Gotta be kind of a techie, cause they do crash their drones and have to fix them. You gotta get the drone, the battery, the battery charger, the goggles, the controller, the battery for the controller. They tend to use Betaflight on their flight controller. They try to get you to fly acro, but I crash when I do that.

I want to build a drone with INAV. INAV is FC software fork based off Betaflight, but it has GPS capabilities. So you can get things like waypoints flight plans, Hold position, and Return to home.

New video from Josh Bardwell (an FPV guy) along with Ken Herron (A DJI Guy).

Im intertested in shooting a few outside 'scenes' mainstream, not porn.

I had a Parrot drone back in the day when they first came out.

I used it maybe a total of 5 times, it just sat in the box collecting dust so I gave it to a neighbors kid. He also used it a few times and was never seen using it after the first week :1orglaugh

yes I have specific goals in mind.... shots of a moving car from the front wheels, pull to shoot though the window, pull back to reveal the car going through desert. etc..

What's your budget? DJI drones have a good reputation. Something like the DJI Mini 2 would be a good starter drone, it's pretty capable.

I hadn't considered budget yet. Under 2K would be really nice lol

I have DJI Mavic 2 Pro with the extra batteries. You will want the extra batteries and a way to charge them from your car. (I think the flymore kit was what it's called). The batteries last about 20-25 mins each. Pictures from my M2Pro are almost as good as my 24mp camera. As for shooting video, I have no fuckin clue. I never tried that yet. Maybe someone on here can help with that. The YT videos sure look cool though.

Also looking to buy a drone this month. I want to be able to fly 1 kilometer. I am about 20 meter above the sea and want to follow some whales, dolphins and jumping manta rays. Or a boat with naked girls if i am lucky. Only not much take off space many trees and water. Guess i better find a spot to practice first.

A friend of mine is a professional videographer and is shooting with a drone really often.
His first advice regarding drones was to purchase most simple and affordablle drone you can, cause it will probably crash in a few months or so :(

DJI has simples drones that are good to start with including some funcitons like "home-returning" which is helpful for beginners.

Bought daughter a DJI Mini 2 for Christmas. Christmas Day less than 5 meters away from home, although 100m+ high, experienced motor error, lost complete control and connection, the thing hit the tarmac and obliterated.

A friend of mine has that small drone they sell at Apple stores, an amazing piece of kit, great camera and can fly out miles out and high with it.

If you got the $ defo recommended (I have only played with it for 15 mins or so and was impressed).

I like FPV Drones and prefer to buy them prebuilt as opposed to buying my own.

I have at the moment:

BetaFPV Meteor 65 Analog
Beta FPV 75X Pro Analog
iFlight Protek25 Analog (flies Insta360 Go 2)
HomFpv Wingsuit S Digital (flight Insta360 Go2)
iFlight Protek35 Digital (flies GoPro Hero 10)
HGLRC Rekon 5 Digital (flies GoPro Hero 10)
iFlight Nazgul Evoque Digital (flies GoPro Hero 10)
iFlight Protek60 (flies Blackmagic Pocket, Komodo, etc)

The digital systems all use DJI tech. The Analog systems are as reliable, if not more...you just lose video quality in your goggles. All of these are the result of my kid wanted a quad for his birthday. We've got a small fleet now. 3-4 different radios. 3-4 different pairs of goggles. Enough parts to rebuild a good number of them from scratch if something were to go wrong. There are a few box of props ready and waiting too. I got sick of shit breaking and having to wait for replacements.

You want to learn FPV to do this stuff. DJI products are not able to be flown like this. Even their FPV unit is severly lacking in comparison to most of the FPV quads people are building / buying - today.

I've got one of these sitting in a box waiting for the world to thaw out.

i have dji mavic air 2 and the skydio 2. use them for following you lock on activetrack etc make it easy on yourself. and buy the insurance for both 150yr if you crash its 150 for a replacement drone 500 if you cant recover it. better than paying 1000+ for new one

Grapesoda 02-15-2022 07:54 AM
