Yes this is one of biggest concerns which i have with this procedure.
However, there are third party services which can do ID verification and they are secure as they are specialized for doing such operations ,
so that is how it should be done instead manually collecting ID's .
Also, sometime i get offers to send ID/Passport scan to verify ownership of GFY username,
but i deny those as i have better methods to verify ownership.
I hope in future there wont be some law which will require ID verification for community membership as i have better things to do then watching someone ID.
