At its core, First contact story. I am on the second book "The Dark Forest" now. I highly recommend.

Netflix is making a movie on it. I don't know if I want to see it though.

You're kidding yourself if you think above 1% of GFY is able to intelligently follow that trilogy. You might as well be recommending that a fish ride a bicycle.

It's definitely great though. Follow up after you finish the third book. I'm curious what you think of the ending and the disposition of the main characters.

lol at this thread. @S I bought a wee little lizard today (was languishing in a plastic bag of water in the sun, some ex-pat peeps sell them to tourists on the cruise ships and they all die in bags, on or off-board) and it was not right for the millionth time but disappointed as cannot ride a bike. I'll let it go out on the balcony once he/she regains strength with cat food and seaweed. maybe then...

OP, I really like your threads. books and music

never even heard of this dude, or his series. will def check out if rec'd by you. right now juggling a few, different moods require diff things. Adrian Mole chronicles and Toni Morrison (right now reading Jazz). also anything by Chimamanda Adiche, her Americanah esp is such a retreat to comfort, just finished it for I think the 10th time. I feel happy when I read their stuff

imo the best book ever is the Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill. don't know where to start in singing the praises on that one. super-close runner-up by a smidge is Cats Eye by Margaret Atwood

what's your fav book?

get you on books to movies, they never get them right

the interesting flip side; the Neverending Story. imho one of the best movies ever (it was all about depression when no one in real life dared speak of it, the real thing) and the book was so bad. just awful

but yeah, approach a movie version with caution generally. like some blonde popstar of the moment doing a tribute to Tupac stuff (I'm just making that up, would be funny tho)

will def check that series out, gracias

really like what you post, please don't stop

I'm still trying to finish the entire Dr. Seuss series. Will try this one right after.
