US Court Orders Every ISP in the United States to Block Illegal Streaming Sites
https://torrentfreak.com/us-court-or...-sites-220502/
Been waiting for at least 15 years to post this. |
Interesting. Welcome back.
|
Which sites were blocked?
|
Much as, being a content creator, I'm not a fan of piracy, this is going to be nightmarish for free speech.
|
Been that way in the UK for years... Virtually all pirate sites blocked at ISP level.
Doesn't make a blind bit of difference though unfortunately. Article from over ten years ago when they did it. https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...pyright%20laws. |

I wonder how much this helps though, since the owners just seem to hop onto a new domain whenever their website gets blocked again. |

Happy to see it. Not sure if vps are the key anymore since internet entities always seem to know real country ips these days.

This is either good or bad, it's a thing. It will be a thing, good... or bad..neutral maybe?

Let me explain what I mean. Someone who is 'into' piracy as an 'end user' already thinks 'Why Pay?' I know where to get it for free... They know plenty of active torrent sites and have the necessary programs installed and know how to use them... They are not gonna stop. However, a 'Non Pirate' though, does not think that. If they want it, they pay for it. Not cause its 'The Right Thing' to do, but because they don't really understand how to get it for free and have no real reason to educate themselves on site URLs and what torrents are etc etc... Piracy is something they have heard about, but it's something that other people do, not them... Suddenly, it's all over the news that this site and that site and these sites etc, are no longer allowed to be accessed at ISP level, and the reason for that is that they have the latest spiderman film, the latest music etc all available for free... Infact, SO MANY PEOPLE ARE GETTING EVERYTHING FOR FREE, that the Government have had to step in... Its kinda like advertising that piracy is simple, easy and actually works. The non pirate is now fully aware of where to go and how to do it - Be it by using a 'torrent' which he is now aware of, or by simply using one of the 'IPTV Streaming Services' on a firestick, which again, have just been advertised to him, by the fact that they are banning them... What i mean, is that a pirate isnt gonna stop over this, but more potential pirates will now have more information about how to pirate, and where to find stuff... It's not ideal, and while I would normally agree, 'some action is better than no action' I just feel in this case, that the 'action; will encourage and promote it to new users, who would not have bothered otherwise... Just my opinion of course... Hope I am wrong... :2 cents: |

Limiting traffic to these sites means limiting their income - it's fully legitimate. Of course it doesn't solve the problem just like anti-drug laws don't solve the problem. Fines for breaking the speed limit don't lead to drivers not speeding... are those against the basic freedoms too i.e. the freedom of movement? If there is nothing done, we are creating an impression that online piracy is ignored, accepted and untouchable. Which encourages more people to commit it or support it. |
