Vangelis: Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner composer dies at 79.

Greek composer Vangelis, who was known for his celebrated film themes for Chariots of Fire and Blade Runner, has died at the age of 79.

He won an Oscar for the stirring score to 1981's Chariots of Fire.

Paying tribute, the film's producer Lord Puttnam told the BBC Vangelis had created "a new musical landscape".

Others sharing their memories ranged from French musician Jean-Michel Jarre to Dutch trance DJ Armin van Buuren, who said he was "a big inspiration".

The music at the ending of Blade Runner makes the hairs in my asshole stand on end . . .

Such sad news.

Vangelis blazed new trails in synth music. His collaborations with Jon also yielded magical creations. The "Friends of Mr. Cairo" album is one of my all-time favourites.

He will be missed.

Great final credits music to an awesome ending and the best sci-fi movie of all time.

It was a great time for music with the introduction of the synthesizer. Everything changed.
I remember i played all on my walkman.

I used to put chariots of fire on LJ while simulating playing games

At one point, there was talk of him joining YES after Patrick Moraz left. Imagine what GFTO would have been like with him playing keyboards.
